Working and leaving indoor cat at home?

We had an unpredictable change in circumstances today and it looks as though I'll have to go back to work after been a sahm for a few years. So dp will work full time and I'll work part time, for arguments sake say 9-4 each day as I still have to pick the dcs up from school.
I have an indoor Ragdoll cat and when I talked to the rescue shelter about rehoming her they said that the breed likes company and would be miserable by herself.
Would she be OK if I were to work these hours every day? She tends to sleep all day when I'm there but that's not the point.
I'm not sure getting another cat is the answer as when she sees another cat outside through the window she runs away from it.
Any thoughts?

Also if another cat is the answer, would it be best to rehome another indoor adult cat or a kitten?

She'll be fine, we used to leave asbo from 7.30 to 17.30. Dh would go home at lunch to check on him and get ignored.

She should be fine - probably she'll sleep while you're out. Lots of games and TLC in the evenings as usual should make up any attention deficit.

Fine, mine (about 8 years old) is home for just under 12 hours alone each day, she spends 80% of the time sleeping.

I think she'll be fine too. Better to try it and see before thinking about another cat for company.
