I was thinking about it and realised that my life ..all 47 years so far; has never been without a cat or several.
We had:
Twinkle toes (run over at 18m)
Sandy (a stray kitten that my Mum found at 6 weeks old and he lived to 17)
Blackie.. another stray
Piglet.. ditto and named as Mum was reading Winnie the Pooh to me at the time!
Topsey.. rescued from cruel neighbours and was about 18 when she died
Kissyfur and Dufas..I had from kittens and mum took them on when DS1 had asthma due to them:(

Portia.. DS1 had grown out of his allergy by then..15 and still going strong: rules our house!
Morpheus.. love of my life.. my beloved MC boy who died of cancer at 12 last year
Obie and Ophie.. current teenage MC.

Mum has since also rescued Suki (tiny cat who died of respiratory problems)
Tigger.. burned in a bath by stupid kids.. now living a life of luxury with her. And Bruno.. again.. neighbours got him as a cute kitten, got bored and refused to feed him ' he's a cat he can catch his food' or treat his septic ears. Now in perfect health with Mum and a gorgeous young boy. She also feeds about 5 others and a fox :O

That's a lot of fur love in our family :)
I wonder how many more cats I have in my future :D

I'm 40 and haven't had enough cats!

Tiddlywinks - my Mum's ginger cat who I can just about remember as he died aged 18 when I was very young.
Sooty - we adopted her from the RSPCA when I was 10. I chose her and she was the most pathetic looking cat in the cattery and Mum didn't think we'd get to take her home. She was put to sleep when she was 14 due to diabetes.
Rosie - we adopted her after Sooty died. She was so timid most people didn't know we had a cat as she was permanently hiding. She loved my Dad though and would sit with him for hours and when he died she retreated into her shell even more. Thankfully for the last few years of her life she found her nerve and became a lovely, affectionate cat. She died when she was 17.
Harry - my little man, the love of my life who has been told he has to live forever!
William - the poor old stray who adopted me last year. He went to live with my Mum until he had to be put to sleep 6 months later. A soft, loving cat who deserved a better life than the one he'd had.

One as a child.
Two who died recently at ripe old ages.
And just starting our journey with this young lady (nearest thing I have to a stationary shot -- she's like greased lightning).

How many cats have you had in your life so far?

Not counting rescue/foster (lost count of those), I've had 11 pet cats. 7 of them still with me. Well, 5 actually with me, 2 back in the UK with my mum.

Three. One as a child and two now, adopted from a rescue 18 months ago. With a gap of 40 years. If I'm honest, I love our two but wouldn't be in any hurry to replace them should the worst happen, I'm not really a cat person and would go back to being a pet free house very readily. It's hard to explain really, I like cats but it still feels alien to me having animals in a house.

Do I count the family pets from when I was little? If I do then 7, but I also temporarily fostered another 5.

Lancelottie - I hope your little girl is called Sandy if she's like "Greased Lightning"!

The first cat I had was Kitty when I was a child.

Next we had Penny who 'disappeared' when visiting the vets. Hmm
Then Cassie who died of old age.

Then I had a mother and daughter combo who both died within 12 months of each other and both aged 16.

I don't have any at the moment as my Dog was put to sleep due to old age. It just didn't feel right to get another cat when my dog was so old and needed extra care himself, a kitten/cat would have upset him.

I'm not thinking of getting another cat just yet as I'm considering another dog but I hope in a few years to get another cat. Smile

Miffy - childhood family cat who was all white and deaf - disappeared when we moved home .
Sooty - childhood cat again -lived a long life as a house cat, then had a glorious old age with last couple of years going outside for the first time Grin.
Ringo - Ginger Tom who was 'my' first cat as a teenager. Lived to 15 with my mum after I left home
Marlow - another from my teenage years! A little black and white boy bought from a pet shop (turned out he had feline leukemia and had to be pts at about 18 months). He had a lovely nature.
Chas - Got him as a student, I 'fostered' him but ended up keeping him. He died at 16 2 years ago. He was a huge soft black and white boy who had the best nature.
Belle - RSPCA tabby kitten - lived to 15, obsessed with me! Rather intense personality but gorgeous!
Louie - got him when I worked in a vets - brought in as stray RTA with his eye hanging out - another instense, large personality ( I think there was a touch of Siamese in him!). Disappeared 4 years ago while we were on holiday Sad.
Current 2 are newly adopted girls, both black and white. Very different personalities - one tricksy nervy type and one slightly thick, more laid back!
So that's 9!!
I will always have cats in my life!

I've come to cats late in life, we always had dogs.
In my 20s I had Sasha a long haired tortie barn cat. She adopted me deciding she preferred me to her owner. Died aged 18. Very independent but we had a great connection.
Now mid 40s I have my Burmese boys. They are utterly dependent, closer to dogs in personality I think. Lovely cats.
