The litter tray

Update on apparently stiff back legs/walking oddly

The vet looked at our little cat today, and also asked a colleague's opinion. They think the awkward walking is due to a reaction to the suture material used to close the spaying incision, as there was some thickening of the muscle in that area. The vet thinks it's probably pulling a bit when she moves, so we should continue to keep an eye on her, but there doesn't appear to be any other reason for concern, which I am very relieved about.

So the vet is reckoning that it will sort itself out with some more exercise?

Well she said not to let her be too active, but I think she is moving as much as she wants to, and is scampering about. We are back again in 3 weeks for the booster vaccinations so that will be a chance to check on her progress.

I'll confess that I rather liked Lone's take on what was possibly wrong - I can see the potential for straining a muscle in a cat who was in a confined spot for some time and then had a whoopsy-doo time in a larger and complicated space after coming out of the GA. (It sounds as if your vet wasn't too sure either and was giving you their best thoughts.)

Luckily, I should imagine that the cure is in her own hands whatever the reason - and your vet doesn't seem overly concerned about it - so hopefully it will all ease out.

Good luck to her and let us know how she gets on. Smile

Thank you, she certainly doesn't seem in distress, so hopefully it will resolve itself over time.
