The litter tray

My 3 cats constantly act starving and destroy things looking for food

I've seen there's a food related thread up already but mine is slightly different

I've got 3 cats, all indoor only, one is deaf and one has urethral blockage issues so I can't feed dry food or leave it out. The blockage issue cat (Pitch) is also overweight and so on a diet

The cats are fed a wet pouch each at 9am, 3pm and 9pm. Pitch has 1 pouch of special diet wet food and 1 pouch of felix sauce food in a bowl and mixed with a lot of water to make sort of cat soup, so he has 2 pouches in a day but it's split into 3 meals so he eats with the other cats

Whenever I walk to the kitchen they follow me and all meow like crazy, even if it's not feeding time or if they've just eaten and I leave the kitchen and re enter they're all in a line following and meowing for more food. Surely they're eating enough they can't be hungry so fast. They also get random dreamies sometimes although it's never when they're begging. Deaf cat will try to steal food from the other cats bowls after eating his too.

If I leave bread or cereal boxes or any packaged food out, I go back 5 min later and it's ripped up and the food is half eaten by the cats. If I am cooking and have a baking tray out and look away for a second, deaf cat is on it and is licking it (even if it's a clean tray), he does this with plates and bowls too that are empty, everything seems to be getting destroyed or knocked off counters because the cats are on a constant hunt for food!

The third cat is very small and she will join in with the boys meowing and begging but then won't eat anything they manage to get into and she won't try to steal from the others bowls but still has the begging behaviour. Girl cat is about 2.8kg, deaf one is 6kg and overweight pitch is 6.8kg (but he has lost quite a lot of weight already). They're all about a year and a half old

Should I be feeding them more? Girl cat often doesn't finish her portion so I'll put it in deaf cats bowl but he is still scrounging around, it's him and pitch who are the main problems now they started ripping up human food. As I said before I can't leave dry food down because of Pitch's issues he isn't allowed dry.

I've written and formatted this really awful but am posting from my phone sorry! It's just driving me crazy now I am constantly trying to chase cats out of the kitchen or walk without them under my feet meowing for food

Have you tried them on a really high meat food like Animonda Carny or Butchers Classic? Felix doesn't have much meat protein, instead it's bulked up with fillers (carbs) which cats don't process well, therefore leaving them not feeling full.

I agree I think you need to try a better quality food with a higher % meat.

Do they need worming? Indoor cats still need to be wormed.

My cat does this and it drives me nuts. Someone here suggested she might have diabetes

I don't think that's enough food.

The food we have for weights recommends 4-5 sachets a day and that's what vet said.

We use applaws and the cats have 2 pouches a day plus 2 portions of dry biscuits.

I agreee - they need better quality food, not more.
We use tinned Butchers Classic as it contains no cereal and is cheap/readily available at supermarkets.
Ours also have a small amount of dry Applaws.
Between 3 adult cats who go outdoors they get just one tin of Butchers and 50g Applaws between them a day, shared across 2 meals.

You could always invest in some special urinary dry food (you can buy Royal Canin urinary s/o online) which won't cause issues with your blocked cat.. It has completely dissolved my cats crystals and is helping him maintain a good weight (although he is a beggar for about an hour before mealtimes)

Good luck - my previous cat would scoff anything left out on counters etc. . memorably ate a whole roast chicken that had been left on the side by her previous owner Grin she was utterly tiny as well!

You can buy satiety cat food which makes them feel fuller for longer.

I would agree to increase the quality and proportion of meat rather than the actual quantity. Archcat is a lithe 6.5 kg and he only gets 100g Animonda (over 60% meat and low in grain) in the morning and 100g raw meat evenings, supplemented by an average of 20g per day dry Applaws (80% meat and grain free). Felix has something like 4% meat, most of it is grain which just goes through most cats because they can't digest it properly.

When we first got Archcat he was wading through 5 pouches a day (and farting like crazy) - now he's down to the equivalent of 2. I must admit that he's an outdoor cat, though, and we're fairly sure he goes self-service on the local mouse population whenever he's peckish.

In your place I'd follow the suggestion to let them share a large tin of Butchers and give the two without kidney problems a small bit of Applaws dry too.
