The litter tray

Please hold my hand, H is missing

We're on holiday until Friday and I've had a text from the pet sitter to say my little fur baby is missing. He didn't eat his dinner last night or breakfast this morning and she hasn't seen him. This is so unlike him and I feel so useless not being there for him. I keep telling myself he'll be ok but this is so unlike him - he's only gone missing once before in the seven years he's been with us and that was for a day.

I want to go home Sad

ASBO did this, he was hiding in our garden. You're abroad aren't you?.

She'll have to keep calling him and putting his food down, ring local vets and rescues.

He's probably not far away though.

We're in Florida and we were having a great time until H decided to do a runner.

The cat sitter has been in 3 times today and might go back after dark. If he's not back tomorrow I'll register him as missing on the Petlog website - he's already on a local page. I just feel useless being so far away from him.

Ok, well being logical, if it's a protest flounce he won't have gone far.

If that's the case he will come running as soon as you call him.

Neighbour's cat does a protest flounce every time they go on holiday. Fingers crossed he will be back soon.

He's never done a protest flounce before, he's more the guilt trip type - all over us when we get back and making us feel guilty. I'm going from rational and thinking he's got shut in somewhere and will be home soon to panicking and being convinced he's dead somewhere.

I don't think I'm cut out to be a cat owner!

Neither had ASBO. I get a bollocking every time he gets back from the cattery.

There's nothing you can do from there though, it's only two more days till you fly back.

He's tried guilt-trips and they didn't work so now it's time for a protest flounce - this is a multi-talented cat after all. He's probably sitting in the bushes watching her. Smile

Enjoy your last couple of days there.

Are you ok with them telling you Pink? I may have been tempted to leave it a bit if I were them.

DBil got a call when they were in the US to say their cat had escaped from the cattery. Sad Cat turned up two days later.

Really sorry to hear about H. Try not to despair - he may well be out for a wander somewhere. My cat hates it when we go away and has left food untouched on more than one occasion. I assume he goes off for a long wander. The neighbour who feeds him didn't tell us at the time - I suppose it wouldn't have done any good & I'd only have worried (even more) about him. Try to enjoy Florida & fingers crossed H turns up.

Thanks all. She only told me as she was worried as he's been so loving towards her (I will be having words with him about that!) and it was so out of character. Fingers crossed he's curled up in his bed tomorrow morning...

Mine has just done this (again!) and the stress is unbelievable - they say that stress shortens your lifespan and I reckon I'll only have a few years left by the time my cats stop doing this to me!
I'm pretty sure that mine had been stuck in a shed as it had been fine and then turned to heavy rain, so I think she'd sheltered somewhere and got trapped. Notices to all the neighbours worked and she turned up later the same day after being missing for three days.
I think they must like to make us suffer - I can imagine every possible worse case scenario while they are out hunting mice or sunbathing probably!
Hopefully you'll get a text saying he's back from his exploits tomorrow.

He's back! Our cat sitter hasn't seen him but his food has gone. We've got a microchip cat flap so it can only have been him.

Thank you for your support Flowers

It's the last full day today - I'm surprised he didn't wait a bit longer before he came back!

I've decided that when we go away again I won't have any contact with the pet sitter - this time I asked for photos and sent her a couple of texts. No wonder she thought she'd better tell me he was missing!

Yay!
When we went away at Easter my friend was feeding Bin Cat. She would text with pictures every meal. One day, no message, I feared the worst and was convince the no contact was them worrying about how to tell me. I worried myself literally sick. Turned out that she had sent her DH to feed Bin Cat and that he had forgotten to text.

Next holiday it's a cattery. She'll be pissed off, but safe.

Next time he'll vanish the day before you go for maximum distress.

Had lots of problems whenever a friend looked after our cats, one cat left in a huff once we got home, never saw her again. Also had worrying phone calls that ruined holidays.

Problem solved now, we board them. Found a lovely cattery, cats are safe and always delighted to see us and come home again.

Since we've got back H hasn't left us alone - he's following us everywhere! He's even been sleeping on our bed all night which is something he's not done before. (I know know if he thinks he's sleeping with us or we're sleeping with him!)

I rather like the new, super-affectionate Mr H!

Has he popped a locator tag on you and a tracking app on your phone?.

What will you do with him next time you go away?.
