Not sure where the best place for this is. I would like to get a cat but want to check if my youngest ds has an allergy first. He has has croup so many times and it's looking like they will diagnose him with asthma before long.

I don't want to have a pet only to have to give it up. Any advice?

Go along to a rescue centre, spend some time there, ask them to let your son have direct access to a cat for a while. They'll be glad to help in sure.

Some breeds are less likely to induce allergies, like the rex (curly) breeds. A good breeder will let you visit with their cats, to see if they cause an allergic reaction.

Devon Rexes are extremely child-friendly and playful, our breeder describes them as "bomb proof".

Try siberian forest cats many people with allergens can tolerate them
