The litter tray

Will I look like a twat at the vets if I do this?

Ok this is my first rescue cat & on Wednesday she has to go to the vets to have 2 teeth out. I've been looking at youtube vids this morning as I've not had to put a cat into a carrier before & it has gone smoothly this morning on our trial run :) The youtube vids said that its a good idea to drape a towel over the carrier to keep the cat calm both on the journey & also in the waiting room. The vets is at the end of my road so we will be walking about 200 yards, if I go in with a towel or blanket over the carrier will I look a bit daft or is it something that people do routinely? :)

People do this routinely, even if to keep other peoples dogs calm in the waiting room!

It's fairly normal to protect animals from stress, so fine

Thanks both, that's reassuring :)

I tend to get a quick taxi there simply because at this time of year, I don't want the old lad catching a chill from cold wind if I can help it - but on the way home, I catch a taxi on the main street, cat carrier in hand and light rug over it, blowing in the wind.

No-one has ever given me a second glance and he's down there quite a bit.

Oh - and best of luck to her for her procedure.

It's a standard cat handling technique, you will be thought of as a knowledgable owner, even more so if the carrier goes on a aided surface.

Sorry damn autocorrect raised surface.

I've just come back from the vets with a beach towel draped over the carrier. No-one told me I looked like a twat! It definitely keeps my cat calmer.

Oh I do this, perfectly normal as far as I'm aware! I'm impressed your trial run went well - mine know to run like hell when the cat carrier is produced.

We do it with all the cats we transport and recommend to our clients to do it to.

My cat carrier is all closed sides and I face the door towards me so the cats can't see the other animals and they can't see me. FABCat wasn't fussed but GirlCat and BoyCat are younger and BC is a wuss. No point over stressing your pet.
