It never gets easier does it? (Deceased cat warning-not Sparkling Cat)

Out for a walk, find a cat that must have been run over minutes before, tail still swishing.
Called DH who brought the box and the blanket and dashed off to the vets. It must have died on the way. No chip but neutered and quite young.

Called in at the nearest farm on the way back and they think it was one of theirs.

RIP gorgeous male tabby.

Sorry didn't explain the 'not getting easier' bit but I seem to have done this about 5 times now.

No - it doesn't. But well done for taking it to the vets and letting it be cared for in its last few minutes even if it didn't know. (I would guess that the swishing tail was an automatic nervous system reaction and that it was actually unconscious.) Many people wouldn't bother.

It's really odd as I usually walk down the canal but thought I would change my route today, if I had done my usual walk I would never have known.
And to think it was one of the cars that passed me that hit him too.

Just given Sparkling Cat a huge squeeze.

I know what you mean. Years ago I was driving home late at night and I saw a cat at the side of the road. It was on the side where there were no houses so I pulled over and it was obvious he'd been run over.

It started to drag itself across the road so I was trying to work out what to do with him (I was too squeamish to pick him up - I'm ashamed of that now) and the traffic was stopping as I was standing in the middle of the road. I suddenly noticed blue flashing lights and a police car stopped (probably thought I was drunk!) and the police officer carried him to the side of the road. She wasn't going to take him to the vet as he was a cat and there is no legal responsibility so I told her we couldn't leave him there to die, I would take him. She then took him to the vet and put a note through my door later on to tell me he'd died. I thought he would but I was devastated and it upsets me even now.

I just hope that if my cat is run over someone like you finds him Sparkling

I can totally understand the squeamish thing Pink, there was a lot of blood from this one-and he was still warm.
I asked DH to bring one of the rubbishy blankets to wrap him in. I knew he wasn't going to make it but there was that small bit of me that thought maybe IYKWIM.

i didn't know that Police wouldn't take them to the vet-but I guess they have other stuff to do.

I couldn't not do it, and I hope if anything happened to mine someone would help her.

At least you find them and not someon who'll just walk by. You do have a knack of coming across these poor cats though.

I drive really slowly everywhere so if a cat runs out I stand a chance of stopping.

I tell people it's incase a child runs out in the road.....

It was quite touching when a cyclist stopped. I had walked a bit further up the road to get a phone signal and he stopped when he saw the cat.
I ran back to him and said it was all in hand and not to worry-you could see he was wondering what he could do-he was a nice lad.

How the motorist didn't notice-that's what puzzles me.

One slightly comical thing was that I had gone for a walk without brushing my hair or cleaning my teeth, and no slap at all. Not really thinking I would be standing in my vets within the hour covered in sweat.

Fluffy I do seem to have more than my share of this. I always have a box and blanket, and rubber gloves in the car now, just in case. Typical that I was out walking this time.

You are a good person sparkling I'm glad there are people like you around . How horrid that you see the situation enough to have a special kit though

I just think it's wise now green, I would hate to be unprepared.

It just goes to show that it's not always the busy main roads. This was a windy narrow lane where you have to back up if you meet another car-but unfortunately people drive very fast. I have had to dive in the hedge myself.

Had a nice email from the vets this evening saying how grateful the owner was and they actually went to pick the cat up this afternoon.

We once picked up a cat we thought was our neighbours and brought it back to them. It wasn't but our neighbours knew who she belonged to.

I felt crap for the owner- I've had two cats killed by drivers, one was sitting on the pavement as well and should have been safe.

One of my friends on FB lost her cat on Thursday- he got hit by a car and when they got him to the vet he was too badly injured. I spent ages crying, along with a lot of other friends of theirs as well.

I wish we could teach them the Green Cross Code. It's so sad, I know a lot of people don't understand and wouldn't be too fussed but it breaks my heart every time.

That was nice of them. Many farmers pay little heed to their cats (although the fact that he was neutered was a clue to their being good owners.) RIP Benny.

He was one of a tabby pair.

My friend (huge cat lover) had to do an emergency stop for a pregnant cat today, she says she still hasn't recovered, it was so close.

What is it with the cats at the moment?

Our cat was run ove ra few weeks ago and I was really pleased that someone had taken the time to stop and put him on the grass verge rather than him being left in the road. Their was also another cat on the verge and the woman then found another cat just outside her workplace (she has posted it it on an FB site). The council traced us through his microchip

I'm sorry to hear that Old. Yes, I think even if somebody could remove the cat from the road that would be kind.
