I will soon be getting my own house and was desperate to get a kitten but after reading a few posts on here I realise I should give a rescue a home.

Having googled my local I'm sat feeling sorry for them all! How will I stop myself taking 20 cats home!?

How exciting. Get the one who's being overlooked.

I'd have flocks of cats if fluffy cat wasn't such a bully.

Needless photo of fcat.

With great difficulty! But have you worked out what sort of cat would suit best, yet? That may narrow the field down a tad.

It's hard isn't it.

I solve this by telling the rescue my current circumstances (number of resident pets etc) and asking them to select the right cat(s) for me.

I've never been disappointed!

Unfortunately I can't help you with that one. I have taken 20 cats home ...

Please get a black and white one, they are the most overlooked as people think they're boring.

You could get an older mum cat and one of her babies, best of both worlds. Grin

I desperately want a longhair (always had longhairs) and on the website there are a few longhairs so that's positive.

Pickle funny you say that, the ones that are longhair are black and white! Doesn't bother me in the slightest Grin

I do have a boy at the minute (technically my mother and I share him) who I desperately want to take with me but he's 12 and I don't know how he will cope with a new house?

So ideally need a cat who wants an older brother and who isn't against children in the future (currently childless!)

But firstly I need to get IN my new house before I acquire any more cats but I can't stop myself looking!

We were going to wait at least 6 months to get cats when we moved. I lasted less than 2!

I second the black cats. No one ever wants them but they are adorable! But then I am biased - have two of them.
Shameless placement of picture. Watching frozen with DD2.

Oh he is lovely. He looks like my boy (brother to the one above who loves watching TV) - all fluffy and cuddly.
This is how I sleep most nights!

Haha love it! My boy knows he has his own side to sleep on. Only gets close to bonk me on the nose with his paw at breakfast-time

I wake up with a cat in my face demanding his breakfast. It is not like he has a full bowl of dried food he can munch on. Oh no full breakfast for him.
Realises they have me wrapped round their paws!
My sister before she moved back to the UK worked in a rescue home and now has 10 cats! All so friendly - your lap is never empty when you visit.

I only wanted one cat and now he's been with us for eight months, I wished I'd picked up a buddy for him from the rescue centre. The trouble is he's quite dominant and I know he wouldn't tolerate another cat. I love him though. Shameless excuse to post another photo!

If it's any consolation I have never in my life picked a cat they have all been strays or one that was passed on to me by a neighbour when she moved.

Maybe your ideal cat will walk in to your new house. But if it is a kitten that turns up don't tell Sparkling

Please get a black one. Black cats are very neglected.

We have a black one (and his grey sister) from the Cat's Protection and he is both every so slightly spooky and also completely adorable.

If I had my way Loki kitty would currently have 20 furry siblings. ( He's having to make do with the arrival of a human one in 12 weeks.)

We got him as a kitten and he's still my baby.

i work at a rescue center and when people come to look for a cat or kitten to rescue, i walk round with them and funnily enough either the cat wont pick you, sometimes normally friendly cats will go all haughty and not interact with prospective adopters, or the opposite you may go looking for a young ginger boy cat and come home with a middle aged tabby girl cat as that is the one you bond with, believe me when you go the rescue wont lwet you adopt 20 cats lol and you will know which one is for you, what i always suggest is i show people the cats that suit their circumstances, and then say does anyone stand out and let people look a secomnd time, then leave them to discuss who is on offer and usually the right cat or kitten goes to the right home
