How do I find a cattery

I need to place my elderly cat in a cattery this summer for two weeks. I've never had to do this before and am really unsure how to choose.
Does anyone have any experience of a cattery around the Beds/Bucks border? Or any advice about what to look for.
Do most places administer medication - and do they charge extra. She also needs feeding 4 times a day (she's not overweight!) - and most places seem to state that they feed twice a day. Am I likely to find a place willing to do 4 feeds a day?
Thanks in advance.

I found ours on this list, it's not open to new catteries.

Look around a few & see if you like them. The cats at the one ours goes to all look really relaxed plus they keep horses & pet gun dogs too so they are "pet people".

Ours will give meds & has a vet practice they can take them to included in the cost.

I don't know about feeding four times a day though. Perhaps they'd make an exception for an elderly old cat.

how far are you prepared to drive? (& how far is your cat ok with in the car?)
I took my cats to a cattery 30 mins away last holiday, although there were plenty nearer, because it seemed by far the nicest of the ones I visited (also the most expensive but I thought it was worth it!) & they were certainly pretty unfazed by the experience

anyway googling on Milton Keynes I found \link{http://www.thekennels.com/\Charlesberry Kennels} near Newport Pagnell.

'We have such faith in our ability that we offer free Veterinary fee cover whilst your pet is boarding, please see full conditions. In the very rare event of a cat becoming unwell we will take them immediately to your Veterinary Surgery (if this is within a reasonable distance). We do this as your Vets are the only ones who have a past medical history of your cat.
'If your Pet has a pre-existing medical condition and requires tablets or the like to be administered, unlike most other catteries we are happy to do this free of charge.
'We stock most main brand foods such as Hills, Iams, Whiskas & Felix. If we do not stock the food you feed you are more than welcome to bring your own.
'We operate a Collection and Delivery service on Weekday mornings, which regularly visits Milton Keynes, Bedford and the surrounding Towns and Villages.'

They don't say they'll feed more than twice a day but they certainly seem flexible & keen to help Smile

Are you up to date with all vaccinations? You'll need to produce their vaccination card.

I think I may have to go visiting.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile- thanks for the suggestion - it looks great. It's a bit of a trek but definitely worth considering.

Fluffycloudland - My cat wasn't up-to-date with her vacinations - but she's just had a visit to the vet to get them started. She will be up-to-date by our trip.

Ask at the vet, they may have a recommendation.

Got a recommendation, went for a visit and the place is booked. All ok about feeds and med.
Can only hope she will be ok.
My DS wasn't impressed that she would be in a pen and wouldn't be able to wander around the gardens!

Possibly too far for you, but depends which airport you go from (are you even flying?). All Seasons Cattery at South Mimms, J23 of M25, I think it's Hertfordshire.

Glad you found a good place. My old boy never has fewer than four meals a day either so they're probably used to doing it for older cats on request.
