I knew she wasn't well but thought because she's getting older and the heat.

Turns out she has quite a large tumour in the gut.

We need to find out if its spread.

Dreading the news and frickin gutted.

She is doing OK. Definitely not herself but OK.

Look at her little face and wonder if we are doing the right thing not getting the chemo.

Is such a hard decision to make.

Can't imagine not having her around sad

How are things going chockbic? My old boy managed to carry on for just over 4 weeks on steroids, the response at first was wonderful but it became less effective as time went on

I was very grateful for the extra few weeks and for the fact that the steroids kept him comfortable & eating

I was also able to have a good think about when we would say enough was enough (and when that time did come it was obvious and we were quite a bit more prepared for it - I felt better in myself for having given the cat lots of love, attention & everything he wanted to eat in his last few days & weeks with us)

How has she done over the weekend?

chockbic Fri 27-Jun-14 17:49:39

We've decided to go for steroid treatment, as chemo wouldn't give her much longer, once the course is finished.

Vet says she could have anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month. Perhaps slightly longer.

Poor baby girl. Have been stroking her whiskers and she's had a good old purr.

Appreciate the interest and support xx.

Sorry to hear the diagnosis chockbic
I'm sure the vet will give good advice tomorrow

chockbic Thu 26-Jun-14 18:09:09

Thanks xx

Should know more tomorrow.

Oh dear, just read the whole thread.
Sending you lots of love from another cat lover.

We said goodbye to my old lady about a year ago as her tumours finally blocked her insides. She was 18 and my best friend in the world.

You will know what the right thing to do is whatever information they give you.
So very sad for you and your family sad

cozietoesie Wed 25-Jun-14 17:08:36

Much for you to think about.

All the best and let us know how things go.

chockbic Wed 25-Jun-14 16:55:17

Well you know, hope for best, prepare for worst.

Back on Friday for oncologists view. Doubt that chemo is an option though. She's a delicate, sensitive puss. So probably discuss pain options, until the time is right to let her go sad

cozietoesie Wed 25-Jun-14 16:36:02

It's what you feared then.

What were the vet's thoughts on prognosis and possible treatment given her age? (I'm guessing he would be thinking palliative care.)

chockbic Wed 25-Jun-14 16:15:03

Severe lymphoma

chockbic Wed 25-Jun-14 11:59:02

This is true, vet said as much.

She has eaten a little more but ignoring me sad

cozietoesie Wed 25-Jun-14 11:55:39

They'll be at the mercy of the lab they've sent the sample(s) to. Rough on you all though.

chockbic Wed 25-Jun-14 11:53:13

Said it should be later today, although said that for last two days as well!

cozietoesie Wed 25-Jun-14 11:50:24

No news yet?

chockbic Wed 25-Jun-14 11:47:01

She is on steroids, sorry ought to have mentioned.

Definitely not herself though. Her little personality has changed.

timtam23 Tue 24-Jun-14 17:32:25

I'm so sorry to hear she is not eating so well, it must be worrying for you.

When my old cat was very ill recently (he had cancer but in his tongue not his gut) he was given steroids which did perk him up temporarily and gave us a bit of breathing space. He was 18 & in poor health so we were not considering any major interventions at all but it was lovely to have a little while of him being perky, pottering about happily & eating well. Sadly the effect was only temporary but it gave us a bit of time to step back & think things through without constantly worrying about him. Maybe you could mention to your vet to see if it would be appropriate to consider for your cat?

chockbic Tue 24-Jun-14 13:54:56

Old girl has managed to force down a few bits of chicken, so that's good.

Just need to find out where we are so a decision can be made.

X

cozietoesie Tue 24-Jun-14 13:31:00

Achh. That's such a long wait for you.

chockbic Tue 24-Jun-14 13:25:25

Waiting for the results still.

Vet has suggested chemo but doubt will go for that.

cozietoesie Mon 23-Jun-14 21:02:37

I'm sorry to hear that. Did you manage to speak to the vet today?

chockbic Mon 23-Jun-14 12:40:42

She is back to not eating and looking thoroughly miserable.

Let's hope things improve soon.

Happy days!

chockbic Sun 22-Jun-14 15:49:35

OK thanks x

cozietoesie Sun 22-Jun-14 15:47:42

I'll PM you.
