Still, at least they are on the ground. Last weekend he was twenty feet up a tree 'playing' with the squirrels.

I remember Twoago catching (and swallowing whole) a live bluebottle - which stayed buzzing in his throat for about 25 minutes. He sat very still and the look on his face was comical. (If only I'd had a digital camera in those days.)

Unfortunately catching bees is extremely dangerous. If the bee stings them in the throat the throat can swell and cut off the airway in a matter of minutes. Many cats die this way.

I don't know what you can do to dissuade them though.

I've never found a way. Luckily, most cats seem to ignore them although they'll go for eg bluebottles and Daddy Longlegs.

As DH pointed out, it explains why we found a bedraggled and pissed off bumblebee in the toilet yesterday. Clearly hiding from the cat.

He is still a youngster - not a year old yet - and a fecking law unto himself.

Dcat managed to catch a bee when young - emergency vet was very expensive. She still watches them and doesn't seem to have learnt much from it despite her now being 13.

Mine is too! I think Spring is sending him crazy... He is also incredibly greedy so when I was out in the garden eating lunch yesterday you could see him going "sandwich...bumblebee...sandwich...bumblebee!"
