Kittens in a small room?

I have 3 kittens, I keep them in the kitchen at night as they kept us up all night when they were upstairs.
Lately they have gotten a lot more boisterous they knock stuff off the benches, pull trash out of the bin, try and get in the cupboards which have cleaning chemicals in them (they have child locks but I'm not convinced they'll keep them out for ever) etc.

I have a small room by my back door in between my kitchen and bathroom, it measures at about 6 x 3.5 foot, Is it too small to keep the kittens in there at nights? Their litter tray is in there and I would leave their water bowl in and also a blanket as when they settle they like to cuddle up together in blankets. They would only be in there at nights and maybe a couple of hours every now and then as I'm rarely out of the house.

How old are the kittens now?

One is nearly 5 months and the other two are nearly 4 months

It's mainly through the night I'm bothered about as they sleep a lot through the day anyways. At night they literally trash the place and I thought it might be better for their safety if they were in there

that sounds like a good place to put them at night when i lived in a very small bungalow mine were put in the bathroom with their beds and litter tray at night as there was nothing in there they could trash, mine settled into this routine very quickly from 6 weeks old

You can always add some toys or a scratching post

I keep mine in the under stairs cupboard, first I thought it was cruel but She's learnt this is where she goes for the night.its smaller than your room, with bed litter tray and water over night. The house is big but if I leave her out she's very vocal and clingy she will keep us up.

Thanks for the replies, I really expected to be told it would be cruel but they will be safer in there. I don't think my poor kitchen could take much more of them

I think it's fine as a temporary measure. After all when they get a bit older and are neutered I presume they'll be going outside a bit? That should wear off some of their energy. And of course as they get older they will become more sedate and sensible, so then you should be able to let them have the run of the house.

It sounds fine. They'll calm down as they get older, though. Mine are a year old now (boy and girl, brother and sister) and they were manic when they were small, especially the boy.

I've lost count of the number of wires he chewed through and the number of things he knocked over or broke or scratched up, but he's been neutered now and he's much calmer. Will you be letting them out once they've been neutered?

When they're neutered, they'll likely calm down a bit as well - and with a few more months of maturity. Are their ops booked yet? (They're nearly of an age now so they could well have hormones starting to course through them as well which would contribute to rambunctious teenage behaviour.)

(I mention this because Oneago's litter brother got another cat pregnant when he was 5 months old.)
