Yesterday I was cold scared and in pain

I know how you all love a good rescue story so here's my latest.
Early evening yesterday a poor lad was brought to me. No chip, no collar and still with testicles. He was very scared though not nasty. He had clearly been in a road traffic accident two weeks ago and had a dead stinking foot ( I always get the stinky ones). We warmed him up,gave him pain relief and antibiotics and just allowed him to chill last night.
Today he had a negative FeLV/FIV test. So we made the decision to amputate the useless leg. Oh and take his testicles too.
When he awoke he was in a lovely methadone haze, but the look on his face was of 'it's stopped now'.
He is all snuggled up now safe warm and will get Applaws for his tea. The search now starts for a foster family for him, before he venture into the world to find his forever home.

I guess he hadn't been using the ex-leg since the accident so all he'd have to do (given that he's got yummy pain meds) is adjust to the change in balance.

Well done to you Lonecat. I wish more vet practices were like yours.

We've just had a call from someone who found a cat with a terrible collar injury, caught on a fence, and which had probably been caught for some days as she was very thin and very dehydrated. The woman took the cat to a local vet who established there was no chip, so unless the woman wanted to pay for the treatment and to take the cat on herself afterwards, the vet said they would euthanise the cat.

The woman called us and we have agreed to take the cat on of course. I understand that vets can't be expected to take on unlimited rescue work, but in this sort of case I just can't imagine how they would be prepared to put the cat down when it has suffered terribly but could be made completely better with just a little time and money.

As soon as I heard the story I thought of your tale. It helped me to remember that not all vets are like this.

How is the boy doing, Lone?

He is relaxing with lots of nursing TLC. He purred for the first time yesterday and he is becoming a gorgeous glossy boy.

First time he's been happy for a while, I suspect. Hopefully he'll find a good new owner who will continue the spoiling.

He sounds superb! He obviously needs extra-special pampering for some time. What a lovely lovely lady you are lone.

Myself and my manager, Mr Cory the rescue, send you our best regards. Mr Cory was in a crap similar state when he was rescued - he was living rough & then in danger of being used as bait for a dog-fighting ring before he arrived at Battersea.

Mr Cory's testicles were removed but he still has giant furry balls, as it happens. Not sure why I shared that, but everyone comments rudely but admiringly on them.

Last night I introduced him to furry cat beds, initially it was considered an alien being now he is snug in his bed. Today he realised he really is a handsome boy deserving of our attention and has actually been requesting it.
He is so rewarding for my nurses, as me the vet I can fix the broken bits, but their special care is what fixes the cat.
