Help Please kitten won't use the litter tray

One of my relatives has a 14 week old kitten. He wont use his litter tray,also he is very loose at the moment and smells awful. and
I think he has a stomach infection.
Can anyone suggest reasons for him not using the tray, and what can be done to encourage him to.

Is he an only Cat? If he's not, get him his own tray they do not like sharing.

If he is an only cat, is they tray new or old? If he can smell another cat on it he won't use it.

Try different places to put it, he may not like the area, he is supposed to use it in.

Do you know the circumstances of his acquisition, ozymandius ? (I'm wondering whether he was properly trained by Mom.) Also, have they taken him to the vet for a check up ? He sounds as if he needs it.

BonTemps He is an only cat,and I'm not sure if the tray is new or not, but I will check on that.
Cozie he came from a private house he had three siblings,and had fleas which I have treated, now gone.
I have explained that he needs to go for a check up and his vaccinations.
They are going to book an app. next week
My cat used a litter tray with a lid and was happy with that. I think this kittens tray needs to be moved to a corner.

What sort of litter are they using? some brands of cat litter can be very harsh for tiny kitten paws to tread on. We use //www.ethicalsuperstore.com/products/bio-catolet/cat-litter/Biocatolet which is paper-based and the kitten has used it happily since we got him aged 7 weeks. I've also heard good things about Fuller's earth-type litter which is quite fine & sandy so not too lumpy for them to walk on

Also with the loose bowels it may be worth looking at what they are feeding him, the pouch foods with gravy always made the kitten's poo really unpleasant, the foods with jelly were better.

Best advise them to get on the phone tomorrow. Next week is Xmas heading to New Year and things are going to unravel fast. They don't need to be faced with a sick kitten when there are no ordinary vets around and the OOH service (at full cost) is the only option.
