The litter tray

My new kitten's first night

He slept beside us all night with no issues at all. I've just got him fresh food and milk but he doesn't seem interested and he hasn't been to the toilet. I'm a little bit worried. He's just hiding behind the washing machine now and had done a lot of meowing . How long does it take for them to settle?

A day or two, perhaps, but being allowed to sleep with you will have helped a lot. Do you have a noisy household? (Him running for cover behind the washing machine and not using the facilities yet.) They often prefer quiet at first when they're settling in.

Oh - and I assume that's not cow's milk you're giving him? (Bad for them.) A bowl of fresh water is good all round.

PS - Is the camera charging ready for the pictures ?

Does he know where his bowls and litter tray are? It's easy for little ones to get disorientated in a new environment and so keeping them in a room with their things for a while can help. Plus they will scent this room and make it their domain which helps them settle.

He's exploring now but still not eaten or drank. Yes, got kitten milk. Taken lots of advice from crazy cat friends. I've taken lots of photos already but can't work out how to put one on using my phone!

Best to put his tray in a quiet place so that his dignity isn't offended if he wants to use it.

If he's exploring, that's excellent. The other things should follow fiarly quickly now.
