Where to get a new kitten or cat from?

My parents have lost both their cats to old age in the last year or so and now feel ready to get another. Where's the best place to get one from? Is there anywhere they should avoid? Thanks .

go to catchat.org and by clicking on the map look at local to them rescue centers, all the rescues are full of lovely cats and kittens looking for new homes and each cat or kitten that goes to a new home leaves a space for a rescue to bring in someone off the waiting list, most rescues are chipped, neutered, vaccinated and the donation to the rescue dosent usually cover any costs that the rescue has incurred

places to avoid are gumtree and places similar as the kittens on there are generally from back street or kitten farmed cats and not very good places to get one as encourages breeding for greed

Get a black or a black and white one. They don't get picked as often as tabbies or torties but the b&w ones I've met have been such cuddle monsters.

They get on your lap before you've sat down properly.

I've found our local CPL site has loads for rehoming so I'm going to show them. I want another one myself after looking!

Dh says we can't go and look round because he'd be stuffing them all into the car because you can't leave one behind.

I've already got a lovely big tom who's 11, so don't think it's fair to bring a kitten into the equation. I'm going to have to sit on my hands if I go with my parents to look at them though!

soft kitty with an eleven year old boy you could get him a younger girlfriend or another young gentle male (rubs hands and does devilish cackle) good luck for your parents im sure at CPL they will find someone to love

and yes out of my four cats its the two tuxies who vie for position on my lap the two glamour boys dont they sit next to me for a fuss

I think I've mentioned this before but the breed rescue that I support recently had a 19 year old lad for rehoming. (His owner had died.) He looked so sad but dignified.

(He was rehomed within days by the way.)

aww cozie i love the oldies we had one called alfie who is deffo not the prettiest of cats, got a big mole over his eye wobbly ears one up one down, black and white, and got a pottasium deficiency condition which makes him wobble, he was there for ages and everybody just walked past his pen saying aww , but then along came a lovely lady who wanted an older special needs cat and now he lives the life of riley if you go onto haworth cat on facebook he is on todays page
