Old cat weeing a lot

Hello

My cat is 13 and I've noticed over the past week that she is weeing quite a bit more than usual. I can't say I've noticed her drinking more though. I'm taking her to the vet on Friday but any ideas what the problem might be?

They often drink when you don't notice. In view particularly of her age, I would suspect diabetes or maybe kidney problems. How is her weight and general condition?

She's generally really well, nice glossy coat. She eats really well and has put on a bit of weight recently.

Ah well. Are you sure she's actually peeing when she gets to the box or is she making frequent trips - but which might not always be productive?

Definite peeing, I can see big dark patches in the litter, unless she's just not bothering to cover it up.

I don't know then, Tilly. Maybe as an older girl her bladder control is becoming a bit.....approximate but your vet will check her out on Friday I'm sure.

Best get it checked out with the vet, the "big 3" in older cats are diabetes, overactive thyroid & kidney failure. One of mine had an overactive thyroid and he was doing huge wees (also eating & drinking loads). The other old one had kidney failure and did a lot of small but frequent wees

The overactive thyroid was a more positive diagnosis than the kidney failure but some treatment is possible for all of them

Good luck

There are a whole host of things it old be, I have five on the top of my head without trying. Only a good clinical examination and probably blood tests with narrow it down.
