Cats smiling?

I am always smiling at my cat but his face doesn't seem to smile, and of course I realised thinking about it that maybe cats can't smile with their mouths. He purrs a lot. And I wondered about his eyes, he kind of does this thing where he shuts his eyes like he is happy. Then I spotted this...

Anyone else any thoughts on this, please?

interesting! I'm not sure if they really can but when my cats had lots of attention and he's all comfy and blissed out he does a face that looks like a smile. Kind of eyes half closed and happy. I always notice it because he's grumpy so it doesn't happen often! Grin

When one of my cats gets a chin rub she has a smile.
She's also cried before when she got spayed, she's more emotive than others I've known.
