My poor boy

My 13 month old tabby fell into a container of diesel, he's become really ill and my husband has took him to emergency vet. Does anybody know if he is likely to recover from this? We would be heartbroken to lose him

How awful Mrs sad
Is there anyone you can contact (environmental health?) about them? Not only has your little lad suffered but surely that's and explosive risk. Under COSHH legislation I'm sure they will have to remove it or make it safe at least.

How is he?

Thinking of you, also.

I am appalled that anybody should have open or accessible containers of dangerous fluids on their property - leaving aside the trouble for your poor cat, what would have happened if some kiddies had wandered on to his property (as they do) and decided to 'play tea using the stuff in the can'. Doesn't bear thinking about.

I have some potentially dangerous fluids in the house (as do most of us, I guess) and they're all in appropriate and sealed containers and placed somewhere that nobody could get to them who didn't know what they were doing - child, adult or animal.

Really hope he is holding on this morning, and that he will pull through. Your neighbour sounds like a total idiot.

How horrible for you.
I am hoping the news is good this morning.

Hoping for good news mrsjrob. x

I have my boy home grin he hasn't got any in his lungs but his skin is very inflamed.he has a collar on but will be fine in a few days.thank you all for your support x x

I'm so relieved for you both. Definitely contact someone about next door as others have said above.

cozietoesie Fri 20-Sep-13 11:31:52

Oh that's such good news, mrsjrob, even though he has inflamed skin.

Oh mrsjrob good news. That's great. And the neighbours need to sort things out.

DidoTheDodo Fri 20-Sep-13 11:37:54

So pleased to hear this. Poor kitty. I hope his skin heals up very soon.

Secretswitch Fri 20-Sep-13 12:51:11

Excellent news! Thank you for the update..

hellymelly Fri 20-Sep-13 13:26:03

That is such good news! I have been worrying about him as I potter about at home today. Hope he is back to normal asap, and that you can get your neighbour to seal the top of any oil or fluids properly, so that pets or wildlife are not at risk.

fackinell Fri 20-Sep-13 14:41:00

Oh thank goodness!! I'd be taking the bill around to next door to show them and letting them know I'm expecting something to be done about their hazardous garden. But then, I'm a cow. smile

mrsjrob Fri 20-Sep-13 15:41:13

I have another update went back to pay the vet and was told by another vet that it was very unlikely he fell into the container, they believe he was either threw in or it was poured over him.i am beyond fuming because next door keep pigeons so that was my first thought when he came home but was told they saw him falling off the fence hmm

cozietoesie Fri 20-Sep-13 15:46:08

You can't prove it that's the problem - but are you minded (and this will take some thought and discussion if you already have bad relations with them) to go for broke on them likely using domestic premises for commercial purposes? Or whatever.

Either way, you'll need to keep him in now for his own safety.

mrsjrob Fri 20-Sep-13 15:51:12

I have to do something, they hate my cats and my children.horrible people.

He defo won't be going out,he can barely walk, can't stay awake and can't be touched hmm looking forward to being able to give him a big cuddle

cozietoesie Fri 20-Sep-13 15:52:57

Hate your children?

You have to think hard about this though. It's not fun having a battle with neighbours even when you're in the right. Do you own or rent?

cozietoesie Fri 20-Sep-13 15:53:44

PS - you might be better discussing this from now on on one of the other boards - say Legal.

hellymelly Fri 20-Sep-13 16:11:31

Blimey. That really is terrible. They could have easily killed him if that is what happened. I must admit I did wonder how he fell off the fence, cats have such a good grip and wooden fencing is easy to cling to. Maybe he was watching their pigeons? I agree to posting in legal for further advice as if this was deliberate it is pretty scary stuff.

ZebraOwl Fri 20-Sep-13 16:14:39

Very glad your cat's okay. Would quite like to coat your neighbours in diesel & then set fire to them if they have indeed deliberately coated your cat with the stuff. (Ok I wouldn't really. But when I rule the world anyone who mistreats animals will have the same done to them because they obviously think it is an acceptable way to treat another living creature & need to experience it to learn it is not...)

fackinell Fri 20-Sep-13 16:58:34

That is absolutely shocking!! How could anyone intentionally hurt a living creature. angry

If they are in rented then I would report them to their landlord or council and yes, glad you are keeping your poor boy in, but annoyed that he has to have his freedom restricted by a few idiots.

TheWinterOne Fri 20-Sep-13 18:45:57

That's disgusting if he's been deliberately coated and trust me I know that can happen. A few kids from where I used to live used to think it funny to put a cat's paws in diesel - bastards!

Glad your boy is on the mend. Bet he's been spoilt rotten with cuddles and maybe a treat or two.

mrsjrob Fri 20-Sep-13 19:07:27

Thank you for your replies, my dad is a lawyer so I will speak to him as soon as he gets home from holiday.

My boy,his name is whitey (the kids named him) is looking so much better already and even walked over for me to rub his ears.

I will keep you all posted about the neighbours next door,I am private renting but have a great landlord so will be speaking to him aswell

cozietoesie Fri 20-Sep-13 19:27:50

A Dad who is a lawyer? That is very helpful.

And I'm glad that your boy is more cheerful.

BruceyBaby Fri 20-Sep-13 20:13:35

So relieved to hear he's doing well ... poor thing sad. How worrying to think he may not have fallen in ... Hope he perks up very soon thanks
