Help! Kitten crying every time we leave the room!

Is this normal?

What can I do to alleviate?

Do I need to sleep down here?

Kitten born 9/7. Today is first day here. Kitten seeking lots of cuddles. Which is lovely but....can I actually go to bed?

This is why we always home kittens in pairs. They get very upset alone. Can he sleep with you?

Missing Mum and the litter mates - today is the biggest change of its whole life after all.

Sort of depends on how soft a touch you are. I have mine sleeping with me but other posters adamantly refuse to allow such liberties and go for the tough love approach. Has s/he got a nice cosy fleece or blanket to sleep on ? If so, s/he'll likely settle once the light goes out and it's quieter. (More than you will, I suspect.)

Oh - and has there been any use of tray?

Catmint Fri 13-Sep-13 22:35:22

Two wees, no poos.

Loads of cuddles, but now racing around like a good 'un!

DP doesn't want her in bed until we are confident about use of tray....I could sleep down here tonight but then what about tomorrow?

Catmint Fri 13-Sep-13 22:36:43

Yes has blanket, furry beanbag, basket ( wasn't hers but she has claimed already ).

cozietoesie Fri 13-Sep-13 22:39:44

Your call, Catmint. grin If you want to leave her downstairs, make sure there's nothing lying around that's fragile and/or breakable spread her blanket somewhere in a safe looking spot (edge or corner or under something), close the door and head for the hills. I suspect you'll be lying awake listening but there you go.

Good on the tray use! She knows her duty.

DP is working early. Kitten has flopped again.smile

She will def be allowed to sleep with us once she is confident with tray. Tonight I think I may be up and down. Takes me back to when dd was tiny! grin

House is kitten proofed and we have installed draught excluders as "cat baffles" in vulnerable areas. She is absolutely marvellous and is now fast asleep by my head.

cozietoesie Fri 13-Sep-13 22:50:20

If she's already chosen the basket as her own, then I'd try her out downstairs. (You'd likely need another tray for upstairs if she slept up there, little bladders being what they are and her being in a strange place.)

I think it's worth the attempt.

cozietoesie Fri 13-Sep-13 22:51:24

Hah! .... fast asleep by my head......

I sense someone under the paw already.

We let this one sleep with us (7 weeks when we took him in) and he was fine at using the litter tray

When my old cat was a tiny kitten I used to wrap a heated wheatbag in a blanket or flannelette sheet & put it into a box for her to snuggle up to

This is such a cute thread! I look forward to hearing the adventures of kitty. What are you going to call her..( and post pics, she adds hopefully..?)

timtam23 Fri 13-Sep-13 22:53:53

Should have said we currently have 3 litter trays - 1 up, 1 down and one in the hallway (small house so nowhere else to put the extra one!)

Catmint Fri 13-Sep-13 22:59:17

Thank you Cozie, I think I just need to know from a 3rd party that it is not cruel. It feels okay, obviously if crying is prolonged I will come down.

Tbh, I have visited this kitten several times and she appears to have speed-bonded to me....lots of cuddles, purrs and paddy-pawing on me.

Ps we chose 1 kitten because we can provide for her and give a safe, secure home. We would not be able to guarantee the same for 2.

We are not inexperienced cat owners, but is a very long time since we had a kitten.

I took my girl to bed with me on night 1 with litter tray, food and water on the bedroom floor. She snuggled under the quilt by my thigh. Up and down all night crying for biscuits, having to put her down and lift her back up as she couldn't get back on.
Only now aged 2 has she decided yo sleep all over the house...after kisses and cuddles for 10 minutes of course

Catmint Fri 13-Sep-13 23:02:29

Scarlett, her name is Meg White, after the drummer in the band the White Stripes. Also, my dd has a bosom friend toy who is a cat called Mog, who is part of the family. So... Meg & Mog just fits.

Have totally outed myself here!

Pics on my profile for all to see, I will add more soon.

I'm a meanie - I lock my kittens in a room downstairs but they have had the odd accident (despite 3 litter trays!) and it's all carpeted upstairs. Plus I know they'd wake us up at 5am grin

There's 2 of them though so they're quite happy curling up together

cozietoesie Fri 13-Sep-13 23:05:15

Keep checking that car engine, Nation !

smile

AmberLeaf Fri 13-Sep-13 23:06:56

Oh she is very pretty!

Silverfoxballs Fri 13-Sep-13 23:06:58

If that was my kitten my DH would be in the cat box and the kitten would be in the bed with me.

Our cat sleeps on the end of DS bed.

Scarletohello Fri 13-Sep-13 23:08:37

Oh soooo cute! If it was mine I'd want it to sleep with me...

kiriwawa Fri 13-Sep-13 23:08:42

Oh she's adorable!
