Why do my cats do this?

Came home to 2 beautifully clean litter trays

I've been home 10 minutes, just sat down with a piece of toast and a coffee and they have both had massive stinky poos!

Why???

So that you will abandon the toast, allowing them to eat the butter off it while you clean up. And they don't have to smell it for long either.

My cat ALWAYS does this. Usually when I get in from work, wrestle with the shopping and DS, prep dinner, then finally sit down with a cuppa.

As soon as arse hits sofa... BOOM!

I think Lonecat has it. After all, why should they wait around in the stink ? Much better to time it so that the staff can do a quick clean up job leaving everything sweet smelling for them.

Mine are more discerning still. My presence doesn't seem to make any difference to when they shit. But the minute a guest comes in the house it's shit city! Quite often they even seem to be able to sense when someone is about to knock on the door and manage to make their shits coincide with it ...

Mine waits until I get home too, and particularly likes to time it to coincide with me cooking or serving food. It's usually quite a performance - preceded by running around the house like a thing possessed, making a strange growling sound, and then a dash into the litter tray and frantic digging.

Always worthwhile thinking about the details of your routine as well.

Very often, in my experience, they'll pee or poo shortly after eating so if eg you're coming in from work/shops, dump bags on floor, feed cat ('Poor Puss - is you so hungry?'), unpack, do a couple of short chores, make a cuppa and then sit down - which latter series of tasks coincides nicely with the time it takes their innards to get into gear from eating the food you prepared for them when you got in the door.

Out of our three, only old lady cat uses the tray, and she always seems to use it as soon as i've cleaned it and put fresh litter in it.

My boy prefers to go outside but does use the upstairs trey if needs be as I don't like him out at night. She cat isn't allowed out until she's spayed. She is rotten though! The stench wakes DH up at night when she goes. Even with doors closed the smell travels.

Agree with Cozie too, she seems to go straight after a meal. Boy cat really prefers to go outside. He miows and miows at the door and paces round and round in a circle so you know he NEEDS to go.
