Those of you who've read my panicked postings might know my two cats have been going outside for the first time over the last couple of weeks. Well, I don't let them out at night because there are foxes around the house and garden. However, every night we go through the rigmarole of them trying to squeeze their way back out through the locked catflap and me having to block it and eventually shut them out the kitchen. They've actually managed to crack the flap.
Well tonight I realised we're doing the same thing every evening so I said a firm "no" and dipped my hand in a glass of water and let the drips fall on them. They ran away, disgusted. Repeat about 8 times.
Eventually they gave up and I watched bake off in peace. Have just come to bed and they're both in my room, sitting in the dark - as physically far away from my bed (their usual sleeping place) as they can be. They didn't blink when I came in and they won't actually look at me!
I feel awful. I know they'll get over it, but I feel really guilty and a bit sad
Was I wrong to use water? I've heard of people using water guns but didn't want to do that!
I think they are doing some sort of you are the top cat thing.
DH once went out over night unplanned (when I was working away, before DC) so the cats didn't get fed pm, am, and then I came home the next evening. They sat with their backs to me for a long time, obvioulsy making a point. So I thought, but my cat book said they were letting me know I had the upper hand.
Now they come and dribble on my face. Presumably that means they are in charge!
