Introducing Cat and Kitty

We are going to do the big introduction tonight, our moggie is 7 and our new kitten is four months. They have smelt each other and heard each other mewing for a couple of days. Our cat seems utterly non-plussed by the sounds / smell of him. Any great tips?? We were thinking of cooking them some chicken so we could treat them together but any other advice greatly appreciated

I've usually just gone ahead and lurched in norma (after allowing mutual sound and smell for a few days.) Taste treats on hand, close but not cloying supervision and keeping it shorter than you probably think is necessary would be my recommendations.

Hope it went/goes well.

Thanks Cozie, we just had 15 mins with chicken I had cooked as treats, he was very friendly, very purry and she hissed a little and growled but didn't puff up her tail and joined in eating some chicken so didn't seem too disturbed but I am not totally sure?!?

Sounds pretty good to me - if she ate with him and didn't puff up etc. (A bit of hissing and noise is not exceptional.) Myself, I would regard it as a good start but wouldn't push it too much. More tomorrow and gradually build up to full-time exposure. (Judge how long the 'gradual' should be by how they seem to be doing - we're not talking an eternity here.)

Thanks so much for your advice, little one is downstairs in his bedroom and big one is lying on my legs purring so not too traumatised! Yep we'll go for a little more tomorrow, hoping for full time exposure by the weekend Smile
