No she had them in her bed in the kitchen

Kitten threads always bring me back to being 7, coming home from school and looking for the cat.

I found her under the duvet on my bed with 5 kittens squee.

Lovely kitties, well done mum

It would of been but I gave up & went to bed at 4 n when I got up at 5 she had just had them smile

I was thinking it would be a live kitten birth thread and she just got on with it anyway.

Well done mumcat.

Maybe sparkling kitten sense is not working smile

Just waiting for Sparkling to visit the thread. She's often got a sixth sense for kitten births.

smile

Thanks for the advice , I will keep it in mind

"both of my other cats are guarding her"

Its lovely to watch them going into the protective mode isn't it smile. One word of warning....if the other cats have had babies before, one or other may try to pinch a baby and carry it off.

In fact, if I stop to think about it, the worst offender for pinching kittens was my neutered male moggy ....... who would try to take them upstairs, wash them until their coats were in danger of shrinking ....and then abandon them wherever they were!! .....so previously having been a mum may not be a key factor.

I would definitely exclude the other cats unless you are around to watch the behaviours.

All advice welcome I think MumnGran.

smile

Thanks MumnGran
I don't get very many visitors so that won't be a problem , I have put her in a fresh bed & both of my other cats are guarding her grin
You definitely don't sound like a know it all , I'm glad of the advice smile

Congratulations !!
Breaking into a thread here (with apology) but thought I would post a couple of tips in case you haven't had a litter before...... as mad cat woman who has hand-reared over 100 kittens in my time blush

Do restrict visitors to mum and babes for the first couple of weeks. Cats can seem fine, but even super-friendly pets can become very stressed by lots of people looking and (particularly) handling new babies. At the extreme end of things, they will eat the kittens to protect them (weird ...but its a feline headset). Its a very good thing for you to briefly handle the kittens once a day, to check they are thriving and develop the socialisation, but otherwise Mum will be happiest if its hands off until they start being mobile smile

Be prepared for her to move them at about 10 days old. Its a strong urge inherited from the wild state where predators would be attracted to the smells in the birthing area. May be useful to put that unused birthing box in a nice, convenient, quiet spot ......otherwise they end up under the bed lol

Don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, but just thought it might help to know smile

cozietoesie Fri 03-May-13 08:29:18

Aw. smile

Probably best not to let the other cats too close to her and the kits at the moment. She just might be very protective of them and you don't want any spats.

You have got it in one cozie
Crazycat has been glaring at me all morning I don't think she is to impressed grin
Ds is over the moon I didn't think he would be bothered but he is refusing to go to Nursery so he can watch them

cozietoesie Fri 03-May-13 08:13:41

Ah well - it gave you something to occupy yourself given how tense you were. smile

(I have this vision of you running around like a mad thing while Mum gazed down benignly on your activities.)

How are the DCs reacting?

No she had them in her bed in the kitchen

cozietoesie Fri 03-May-13 08:06:47

And a very pretty lady indeed.

Out of interest - did she use her birthing box in the end?

smile
