Gardening for my cat

I have access to my downstairs neighbours garden for my cat. Its paved over, but neighbour had kindly offered for us to share the flower beds. This means kitty will have free reign on one side, but neighbour will grow flowers on the other.

I'd like to grow cat grass for kitty on her side. Does anybody have any experience of growing this outdoors?

Also would like to give neighbour some sort of cat repellant to help her protect the flowers. (and to thank her for her generosity!) Any suggestions or recommendations?

I don't think you need special grass if it's just something for them to chew - I don't think they're that fussy. Any old grass seed should do the job.

My mum has grown cat nip. The problem is the cats liked it so much that all the rolling around on it ended up killing it.

I know they sell cat repellant in Pets at Home, but I've no idea if it works.

And of course make sure no lillies are grown, as they are poisonous to cats.
