How do I stop my house being a drop in centre for all the local cats?

Recently started letting our bit out properly after supervised garden playtime and he is loving it. We don't have a cat flap and live in a rented house so can't install one so have been leaving the conservatory door open for him to come and go as he likes to run n and check we are still here from time to time.
However, there is a teeny female who lives over the fence who we keep finding in the house, mostly eating his food. She is a bit of a bully and although he is getting on well with next door's toms he won't chase her off and just stands outside while she scoffs his food! I have also just had to chase the neighbours cat out of our kitchen twice in the last half hour as he was helping himself to some biscuits as well! How do I allow him access to the house without having a cat party all day long? Do I just shut the door and one he has the sense (doubtful!) to meow at the door/ window when he wants in again?

Have you actually checked with the landlord about installing a flap? Some are quite OK about it as long as you agree to make good when you leave. (I appreciate that that would be extra expense though.) It really sounds as though a chip controlled flap is your answer.

Yeah, I think you might be right. He said he was fine with us having a cat as the previous tenant had one but hers was strictly indoors only. I can only ask I suppose, if he says no we will go back to the drawing board!

I'd make the approach and see how he goes with it. It will be a bit of expense that you weren't anticipating but I really think that would be the best way if you can swing it.

Thanks folks, I will see what the landlord says. Next door's cats have a pretty cushy life and are the apple of her eye so I think he is just chancing his luck! She doesn't have a cat flap so when she is out they lurk around our garden as it is sunnier and have obvs noticed the free food portal :)
