Yowling....

My cat is getting on a bit- she was a rescue that we got 5 years ago and they estimated she was 8 - so possibly 13 now. She started yowling a bit a few months ago and our vet has suggested she is deaf and maybe getting a bit demented. He thinks she forgets where she is and that we are just in bed.

Problem is, she is now doing it loudly at night which is waking me up. She also does it during the day when we are in the room with her.

Anyone any ideas? I'm wondering if it is time for some Valium. (For the cat).

Mine does this! She's also old and I think she has dementia; she seems to have phases where she'll do it for a couple of weeks, then stop! I just tune out and don't hear her after a while!

My cat is elderly and also deaf and blind :( Apart from this, she is quite well and enjoys her very spoilt lifestyle :)

my grans cat does this. he's going a bit deaf so he meows louder. My gran says that he also has altzeimers as he forgets that he has been fed and yowls the place down. I think he's just a greedy boy.

Thanks for the replies.

Our cat has defiantly had phases where she is worse than others. We've just been away for the weekend and had someone in to feed her which must have unsettled her.

It's seems deaf and demented is the common thread though. I wonder if I'm going to have to start shutting her in a room at night - at the moment it's like having a newborn!
