Sleepy Cat

My Boy is coming up to 11, he?s always been very laid back even for a cat Grin depending on his mood he would occasionally go out for a few hours, but he and my girl cat have always had open access .

Though she only goes out when it?s warm and sunny and the back door is left open and several other conditions she loudly imposes; yes I am well trained

Anyway OH commented yesterday that he seems to be sleeping a lot at the moment. More than normal, I work from home half the week and haven?t really noticed it, well not as a sudden change in behaviour; I did think he had slowed down a bit. But put it down to age.

But he?s still eating/drinking/pooing and trying to sit on the keyboard while I?m using it, generally playful. And a friend who visited day before commented that you could see the mischief in his eyes.

And seriously he would let me know if he was in pain, the 2-3 days after he was ?done? were hell, he was clingy and cried unless he could sit on or next to me, where as she hid in the bedroom and refused to have anything to do with us for about 4 days.

He?s due his yearly MOT next month, but OH?s comment has worried me.
On the other hand he hates the vets with a passion and if I take him it will freak him out big time, and I don?t want to do that if I?m panicking and this is normal.

I?m being PFB about my cat aren?t I?
Sigh

Yeah, all PFB lol. Chances are it's an age thing along with the colder weather. We all have weeks where we just CBA to do much Wink. Worth mentioning to the vet when you're in, but without any other symptoms I wouldn't think it's a problem.

Our cats sleeping a lot too, I think its too cold for his summer coat to cope with and hes feeling the chill.

Still its better than dh walking around the fields at 1am looking for him with a torch and a packet of chew sticks.

No I would not say you are being PFB with your cat. Sleeping a lot/ slowing down was likely my 14-year-old cat's earliest symptom of lymphoma - cancer of the lymph system - a common cancer in cats. Unfortunately we attributed her slowing down to old age and by the time she showed worrying symptoms, months later - i.e., reduced appetite, staying in the one spot all day - she had Stage IVB lymphoma, the worst it could be. And we had to euthanise her last week and I am devastated. So please, get your cat checked out. It would cost extra money to do the procedures to test for lymphoma and it is a remote possibility but because it is a common cancer in cats it is worth ruling out.

Just an update, he's fine, the marks on the vets arm attest to that.

That and the fact he?s put a big gouge in the airing cupboard door (where he likes to sulk) and has terrorised girl cat all day.

They?ve done bloods just incase, but vet felt it was just a mix of the weather and a little tiny bit of age. He said that the fluctuations in weather are confusing a lot of animals

But Grumpy is fine; I think I liked him better when he was sleeping. . . Grin
