Arghhhhhh! Its driving me insane! She is spayed, about 18 months old, we have 2 older relaxed cats and everything has been fine for a year. But recently she has been spraying in the house, mainly on the toaster (we've chucked one out) and the microwave (on the verge of being chucked too). I have the feline spray to try eliminate the odour but she keeps going back. Help!

That is fucking hilarious. Film it and put it on YouTube.

Hilarious?! I'd have chucked the cat out as well as the toaster.
Although I guess the cat's lucky it wasn't on at the time or else you'd have had a toasted moggy!

She is obviously stressed about something -does she get on with the other 2..are you sure its her and not another cat getting in the catflap?

MrsLadywoman will not film it! rofl - but its not so funny when you inhale the smell...
SparklyCloud - its definatley her, we have seen her do it but not got there in time - she is so quick. We think it started just after my DD got 2 pet mice, as she is such a hunter, maybe she is frustrated she cant get at them - but she doesnt spray near them - I dont quite understand it all.
Have been looking at some websites, some recommend putting foil around the area - they hate the sound when they spray on it, and don't do it again? Or maybe the plug in deterents??
Anyone got any more advice??

Get the Feliway plug in from here and maybe the Feliway spray too, just spray it around the area. (its not the same as the spray deterrent, which just masks the wee, this has proven mummy-cat hormone in to calm the cat)

Maybe at some point a strange cat DID pee there and she is covering the smell and marking her territory? I caught a local cat pissing on my toaster after nicking my cats food, 3 in the morning once. Had noticed the food bowl empty in the mornings whereas previously was not, and knew it was not my cats, so stayed up one night and there it was, bold as brass mid-pee! So maybe this has happened at some point...

Okay, well first of all don't panic. Cats do this and it can be cured. Clean the microwave/toaster with biological washing powder dissolved in hot water, this will rid it of the smell and more importantly the pheremones which are encouraging recurrent behaviour.

You have probably had a stray come in and whizz in your kitchen. If you clean (everything) with the bio washing powder solution it will get rid of the pheremones and stop your cat having the urge.

But you might also want to get the cat checked at the vet as stress urination can be a sign of illness.

Just read a book on this and she recommended placing their food near where they were doing it as they were less likely to do it in this area. No idea whether it works, after a week of shutting cat out of this room discovered it was DH's shoes! Blush

I heard that if you leave orange peel near the area that will deter them....not sure if it would though
