Had a lovely 30 minutes watching the birds in the front garden

Firstly Mr Pheasant came calling quite literally, so I threw some feed out on the grass for him then in the 30 minutes I was standing at the kitchen window watching him hoover it up I saw...

1 daddy black bird feeding his chick in our conifer trees. The mammy hasn't been seen for nearly a week now so has probably been nabbed by a cat or a sparrow hawk.

Chaffinches having a nosey, having a bit to eat then buggering off.

Every now and then a lesser redpoll turns up then disappears.

A black cap.

Sparrows that have taken up nesting in the swift box we have in the eves.

Several blue tits coming and going.

2 coal tits pulling the fibres off the underlay on top of the guinea pigs hutch. There are little bald patches emerging and now know the culprits.

There have been 6 or so Goldfinches on the sun flower hearts.

There are great tits fighting over the sunflower seeds.

The resident Robin is perched on the edge of the bucket waiting.

Nut hatches swooping in between the great tits and nabbing the seed of its choice and dropping the ones it doesn't want. I think there was a fledgeling on at one point because it didn't seem to know what to do at first but then awkwardly got the gist of it and left happy.

There's a pair of wood pigeons on the ground getting what ever is dropped.

Then there is a pair of Dunnocks scratting around in the grass and a little Wren shows it's face every now and then.

Then the Jack Daws casing the joint to figure out how to get at the seeds but they are too big to fit between the bars on the feeders.

Then to top it off and I love these a pair of long tail tits. Little fluff balls with tails.

I could stand here all day just watching them. Shame I have house work to do really.

very jealous. I've recently been drawn in by the birds! I find it relaxing. DH laughs at me.

I only see collared doves, a robin, blackbird, few sparrows and a pigeon. I'm tempting them in with meal worm.

How lovely! We've just built a bird box. We live in hope it will be used. The Robin couple are firm favourites here.

I have a resident Robin and a a pair of blackbirds. Other than that a couple of wood pigeons and an errant pheasant which my cat alway tries to kill.

Wildlife has been massively disturbed by a new estate being banged up on old farmland. So don't get much about now :(

Sounds lovely, I adore long tailed tits. We had a big flock just before Christmas and I was so excited.

I often stand at my back door with binoculars like a complete loon! We have a Raven lurking somewhere, I can hear it occasionally (one of my favourite sounds) and sometimes a heron perches precariously on top of a big conifer. I love birds.

Snake I often see a Jay swooping around in the woods over the river and we see the odd duck.

And Woody woodpecker sometimes comes on the feeders if we put peanuts out.

We've got blue tits nesting in our bird box. We also have pigeons (the cat likes chasing them) and we have magpies and crows that shout at each other in the trees, and jackdaws that sit on the chimney and make noise so I hear them in the fireplace!

We have a little woods nearby so I like spotting birds there - great tits, goldcrests, robins, blackbirds, woodpeckers and jays.

Last year this little chap flew in to our window. He was happy for DP to pick him up and put him on the yard brush. Happy to say after pulling himself together he flew off. He stayed around for a few weeks then we never saw him again.

He's a little goldcrest. They are gorgeous aren't they. Absolutely tiny but gorgeous.

And just snapped these 2 goldfinches back after I topped the feeders up.

And just noticed there is a male chaffinch at the bottom of that photo. I didn't spot him when I took it.

Just been out in the garden, after the thread reminded me to put the bird bells me and DS made out. Came face to face with a chubby baby blackbird sitting on the ground, and hope I haven't scared off Mum and Dad.

I didn't realise the babies were out already!

I love watching the birds, DS too. We're so fond of Mr and Mrs Blackbird, they're so cheeky and confident.

I came face to face with a wren for the first time on a country walk last year and did a proper squeee!

Are goldcrests a particularly friendly bird Gin ? We saw one in the wood (like a fluffy ping pong ball with a little tail - beautiful!) and it let DD get really close and touch it. It just hopped round our feet and I was worried it wasn't quite right but it flew off ok.

A couple of says ago we had the most beautiful green parakeet in our garden! Apparently it's been in the area for years, surreal moment! (We're in e scotland)

I wouldn't have a clue Snake perhaps it too had bounced off a window, bounced off in to the woods in your case only other explanation would be that it was still quite young. Looming back the one we had in the garden didn't seem at all bothered about being picked up or when I kept taking photos of it. It didn't make any attempt to get away from us. Cute little bugger he was though.

Goldcrests aren't very scared of people in my experience. Can often get v close to them. I rescued one from a bus shelter once, it was fluttering pointlessly against the window but was not bothered about being picked up.

Ahh CFSKate thanks for that. I feel a bit better knowing that now. There was a moor hen looking around before. I didn't know what the heck it was at first until it stood up and darted back over the road to the river.

I love this time of year for bird activity.

Gerund I wondered why it didn't seem at all put out and never took flight when we were out in the garden. So they must be.

Sadly we have lots of magpies so the little birds (wisely) stay away.

I've always been interested in birds, I don't go bird watching but I do take an interest in the ones I see when I see them in my garden. I've strategically placed feeders so I can see them from where I sit. I'm also starting to recognise what bird makes what noise thanks to a book I bought about British wildlife about 9 yr ago that my 7 yo DS has now got. He is really good naming birds and he sits on the bench watching them. It's not very often he sits still
