Rock geek walking weekend

I'm going to head off for a weekend away in August (without the kids!), hopefully dragging a friend or two along with me.

Can anyone suggest anywhere good to walk with interesting / nice rocks or landscape features that I'll like but won't simply bore my friends to bits.

I live in Sheffield so anywhere in mainland UK really.

How about the Sedgewick Geology Trail ?

Ooh, I do like a nice fault, and the Dales.

If you go to that area, the river near the bridge at Kirby Lonsdale is supposed to have good corals - not seen them myself, DH has. (he used to go on geology walks, but as he bored DD with them maybe those aren't what you need)

If you like limestone pavements, there's the obvious at Malham, but more to the west - 'the limestone link' - Gaitbarrows in the silverdale area (good for flora/butterflies too). The coast there is pretty interesting - belamites to be picked up on parts of the shore and corals in the rocks. Its a nice little corner with lots of footpaths that most people shoot past on their way to the Lakes.

Malham is obvious, but very nice (and I vaugely recall there being a pub or two there).

Will look up Silverdale too, and I guess you mean the west coast, whereabouts? I'm only really starting to knowthe east coasts (and it's cool fossils).

arnside and silverdale.

It's the 'interesting rocks' place on my doorstep... but there's so many in the UK. We've got about as big a range in as small an area as anywhere in the world. There must be some good places nearer you in the Peaks but that's not my stamping ground.

There are some ace spots in the Peaks but I'm planning on it being a proper weekend away - would feel a bit weird if I was stopping just down the road.

Silverdale looks like a nice patch of the world to be, will definitely look into that a bit more.
