Hi, we're getting a female chocolate labrador pup soon and would appreciate some name suggestions!
We have a magnetic notice board on our fridge and for the last few weeks the whole family has been adding/removing names on a daily basis but we can't agree on one (it's nearly as bad as trying to decide on names for the kids!)
Help Mumsnetters!

cocolepew Tue 02-Apr-13 19:59:16

Minstrel (are you sensing a theme yet grin?

Dora Belvedon's choc lab was Cadbury.

MrsLettuce Tue 02-Apr-13 20:10:33

If you want a 'brown' then maybe Wren, Bruna or Brina? Will be pretty self evident that she's brown though.

I'd go with a 'proper' name myself like Lucy or Esther or some such.

How about naming her for a famous hero dog? ShaLL GOogle

Thanks for the replies so far, some good suggestions!
BCBG we had a choc lab called "Rolo" ,we sadly had to put her to sleep a few days before Christmas but she was over 15 so we were lucky to have her as long as we did.
We still have her daughter who is nearly 12 and is called "Tilly"
The CunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee "Flo" is on DH's shortlist!

C&P: Riva and Salty took charge to guide their blind owners to safety on 9/11. On the 71st floor of one of the Twin Towers, Riva and Salty stayed calm and slowly worked their way through blinding and choking smoke, crowded hallways and the confusion of what had taken place. Both dogs led their owners and a woman the men were helping to safety. Riva and Salty were presented with the Dickin Award in 2002 for their bravery and devotion to duty.

Nothing chocolate related, please! As a vet I find them very unimaginative!

SpicyPear Tue 02-Apr-13 20:43:06

My next puppy will be called "little bastard" so I can let off steam at them and they will be none the wiser grin

But, seriously, ummm....

Montezuma (Monty for short obviously)

Oh, Plastic you really shouldn't say things like that. It encourages me in my weirder animal naming tendancies.

Now, let me think, something brown, one syllable, mmm what about Dump grin

Awww plastic- you'll be pleased to hear then our golden cocker is 'honey'...grin
I blame DH... Could have come up with something much more interesting...
I like mr Bojangles for a boy
Or Leroy Brown (baddest doggy in the whole damn town)

SpicyPear Tue 02-Apr-13 20:57:34

How weird, I didn't read your second post and I suggested the name of your dog! Maybe my brain scanned it subconsciously...

pigsDOfly Tue 02-Apr-13 20:58:11

Seems to be a bit of a trend for human names in our park.

I met a gorgeous little wire haired dog called Dave a while ago. It made me laugh because he just looked like a Dave.

You do need to get a name that really suits your lovely new dog, so don't make any decisions until you've all got to know her a bit.

Also remember it has to be something you're comfortable yelling across the park.

PopGoesTheWeeble Tue 02-Apr-13 21:31:57

mamatron Tue 02-Apr-13 22:25:39

Whojamaflip, we used to have a cat called Marmite!

I'd go for Fudge, but it's already been suggested twice.

tattychicken Tue 02-Apr-13 22:33:45

Our choc lab/springer cross ended up being Hazel but I wanted Truffle or Button.

topbannana Wed 03-Apr-13 13:55:21

I like Buttons and also Frog (DS is a big Harry Potter fan!) if you are going with a chocolate theme. You could also have Chip or Drop grin

We always seem to go for human names and are currently in discussion over new dog names for our impending puppy. However hard I stamp my feet and come up with witty dog names we always seem to end up with a human name <sigh>

We have a choc lab called Coco (sorry, PlasticLentilWeaver blush), and my PIL had one called Fudge.

I'd love to have a choc lab called Smartie. I think whatever name you choose has to reflect their slightly dim but loveable natures, and their uber-cuddliness.

I think Winnie is a good idea, and also Doris, Bertha, and Aggie.

ClaraOswald Wed 03-Apr-13 16:27:29

I always wanted a choc lab named Emma actually.

I was about nine when I read Emma's story, a real life account of one puppys journey to be a guide dog and then read the other books by her owner.

We have a black lab, and spent days making lists of names. He was referred to as PJ in the meantime (Puppy J(oursurname) - it's never changed!

Nora (Geddit?)
Sugar (Shug for short)

Irishmammybread Wed 03-Apr-13 19:12:09

Thanks everyone, lots of good names. We've added some to our shortlist(which has become a lot longer!)
I love the name Trouble but wonder if it may become a self-fulfilling prophecy!
We're leaning more towards human names at the moment but will make the final decision once we've met her.
With each of our three DC we changed our minds completely about a chosen name after they were actually born!
I appreciate people taking the time to make suggestions.x

40thisisit Wed 03-Apr-13 19:14:42

Hi we have 2 year old choc lab called Rolo & a tabby kitten called Wispa!!

ATouchOfStuffing Wed 03-Apr-13 20:21:59

Gingerodgers Fri 05-Apr-13 02:33:00

I had Henry and I think henrietta would be lovely!

Sleepyfergus Fri 05-Apr-13 02:51:06

I know of a black lab called Perdy (Purdy? Purdy?) which is a name I love. I suppose it could be short for Perdita?

Wasn't Perdy the Joanna Lumley character in The Avengers?

alwayslateforwork Fri 05-Apr-13 03:48:24

Ours is Phoebe.

Two doors down was Molly.

Am loving Thornton though grin

Gorran Mon 08-Apr-13 17:28:35
