Just had my home check done today.
Doggie due to arrive next Saturday (touch wood)

... but very happy for you - I bet your pup will be a pampered pooch in no time grin

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 15:00:55

Thank you smile

She is coming from Romania. Bless her little heart.

Ohohoh, my DB has a rescued dog from Romania - Felia. Absolutely gorgeous mongrel mixbreed.

I so yearn for a dog, but must wait until DS4 is past the Insane Toddler stage - for his and the poor dog's sake. And I work long hours... I can see millions going downt the swanee for dog walkers.

So I live vicariously via The Doghouse threads <<saddo>>

You must be soo excited. Have you gone mad buying stuff?

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 15:21:47

I am trying not to. I am being frugal.
But I have some John Lewis vouchers and am currently brokering a deal with a fellow MNer who is going to sort me out with a rather nice pink Cath Kidston collar and lead set grin

I picked up a bed a few weeks ago for a TENNER! from Pets at Home.

I have everything really. No excuse to go mad <dammit!>

LadyTurmoil Sat 02-Feb-13 16:20:45

very envy as well - hope to see some pictures of new arrival. Fantastic!

Oh yy, pictures are required asap.

What do you know about her? Age? History? Size? Looks?

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 17:09:51

I've just deregisterd from fecking FB grin
I'll just wait
<<settles in>>

SpicyPear Sat 02-Feb-13 17:26:27

Oh wow. What a sweetie. Also envy

Good luck for next week.

Jenda Sat 02-Feb-13 17:30:56

Oh my she is absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful girl im so glad you are going to be giving her a happy life! Please put a new pic up when she's settled. you must be so excited. Are you going to keep the name Cutey?

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 17:31:17

I am all a quiver.

I cant really tell what she looks like IYSWIM. I bet she stinks too grin

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Aaaah a new doggie grin

Good luck...I hope it is a very good new doggie unlike mine

Pictures please when it arrives? I do not do Facebook after getting 36 friend requests from dd and DS1 friends. Repeatedly.
I don't want to be friends with 14 year olds thank you very much.

Anyway, yes pictures. That I can see.

SpicyPear Sat 02-Feb-13 17:56:26

Oh yes, make sure you have some doggie shampoo ready! When we collected both if ours they really really ponged.

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 18:00:49

But tantrums if you were on FB you could be MY friend <lures>

Did you adopt Rommies spicey?

Me and DC5 have been practicing a few words. Sit and Come and Baby girl.
He is only 2 but a virtual child prodigy grin

Baby Girl is written exactly the same in Romanian but sounds very different. <tru fact>

Iamaslummymummy Sat 02-Feb-13 18:12:45

Hi Mrs Devere

I picked up my rommy last night grin

It should have been last Sunday but we hadn't been home checked. He's been in foster since then. Picked him up at 9.30 at thurrock. Very strange! He was/is stinky. Will need another bath as the first one didn't sort it!
Very excited for you. Ours is a joy. So gentle and loving.

SpicyPear Sat 02-Feb-13 18:14:21

No, home grown mutts from big rescue centres but still very stinky, esp pup...

Iamaslummymummy Sat 02-Feb-13 18:14:27

Having fun wiping up piss and shit

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 18:17:16

I am hoping to pick up from Thurrock too!
I thought it was Saturdays they did the drop offs. I hope I haven't got it wrong. Friday will be a bit of a pain tbh. But still do-able.

I have my puppy pads ready and she has lived in a foster home for months so at least she has some training.

But I am used to wee and poo. Everytime I manage to train a child or animal I say 'never again'.

It might tell you something that I have five kids. I rarely listen to myself grin

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 18:18:17

Are you on the Happy Ever After FB page Iam?
You don't have to tell me who you are if you don't want to be 'outed'. smile

I can't do it MrsD

There are eleventy million identical pics of either dd and her friends doing that duck lip pout or ds1 and his friends with caps, sunglasses and no top on.
Not to mention the inane drivel they post.

and the fact if I see one of them in tesco, they go "oh mrs tantrum I see your FB page I like your hair in that pic, I like your shoes" DDs friends.
Or ds1 friends, "yeh blud I was looking at your mums FB pics last night you know..."

Nope can't do it. Sorry. grin

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 18:18:53

Just read your post properly about the Saturday pick up blush

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 18:19:49

Tantrums you DO know that you DONT have to accept friend's request and you CAN set your page to private don't you?

You old gimmer

It's too much hard work. Honestly.
And ds1 best friend managed to hack the school twitter, Facebook and school website last week. He posted that it was the wrong week, non school uniform day, all exams were cancelled and school closing at 1pm every day.

FB privacy settings would be nothing compared to him grin

LadyTurmoil Sat 02-Feb-13 18:43:20

Slummy which doggie did you get from Romania? I look at their page frequently on FB and actual website so I might remember - just being nosy! Great news for both of you - more pictures please... smile

Iamaslummymummy Sat 02-Feb-13 18:53:53

I am Mrs d. I've just put a pic on the main aaa page. We have adopted Apollo. Lovely black and white cross breed (some lab and some collie in there somewhere. Also has a lovely curly tail!

gymmummy64 Sat 02-Feb-13 19:03:42

Congratulations MrsDV, your doggy looks absolutely gorgeous! Looking forward to your updates!

Tantrums, that's hysterical shocking, did he get into huge trouble?

<<joins Tantrums in the FB haterz club>>

Can someone link to the Romania adoption website, please? Who knew??
My DB actually brought his dog back from a holiday to Romania shock

He was excluded gymmummy

No doubt he spent the 3 day exclusion hacking into MI5s website grin

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

onlyoneboot Sat 02-Feb-13 19:31:53

oo, she's gorgeous, very similar colouring to my rommy rescue. Have funsmile

Iamaslummymummy Sat 02-Feb-13 19:39:13

[[ action aid for animals]]

Iamaslummymummy Sat 02-Feb-13 19:39:43
LadyTurmoil Sat 02-Feb-13 19:39:56

Apollo and Cutey both look lovely - very good luck with everything grin LOL at the FB haterz but it is great for keeping in touch with friends! I just say no to all my daughter's friends who've asked and that's it...never understand why 13 y/o would want to be my friend anyway confused. Only let my daughter on condition I'd be her friend and be able to check her whenever I asked, she hardly goes on it now anyway.

LadyTurmoil Sat 02-Feb-13 19:42:03 and It's a bit confusing on the FB page 'cos loads of Romanian rescuers put up dogs/cats, asking for help to get them rehomed, but not all appear on the actual website (don't know quite why, think it's just because there's so many sad but FB is prob better for being up to date.

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 19:51:28

It is confusing. I had to search for ages today to find that link. There were so many places I had been looking and I had forgotten where it was!

Its all appears a bit chaotic which put me off at first but it seems like organised chaos and the logistics are terrifying!

Lovely people and very friendly and open. I have not had good experiences of rescues in the past. I have re-homed from Battersea and they were monumentally snotty. Others treated me like a fool for wanting a dog when I had children. Others were very hmm because I was quite specific about the sort of dog I wanted. Like it would have been better for me to just take any size, breed, temperament!

Anyway...I will only believe she is here, when she is here!

LadyTurmoil Sat 02-Feb-13 20:07:10

Tantrums I hope your DS1's best friend has already sent his application form to MI5!!

LadyTurmoil Sat 02-Feb-13 20:08:51

onlyoneboot what sort of dog is your Rommie? Big, small, old, young?

issey6cats Sat 02-Feb-13 20:14:14

OMG she is georgous mrs D the roumanian dogs all seem lovely and the rescues that bring them over here do a fantastic job

issey6cats Sat 02-Feb-13 20:15:25

ps wilma the cypriot chi cross i mentioned on the other thread has now got a permanent home to come to she flies over in april when her pups are old enough to be rehomed

Thank you for the link, although having clicked on it has not helped my yearning... sad

onlyoneboot Sat 02-Feb-13 20:48:23

Lady I've put a photo on my profile. She's medium sized and GSD crossed with anyone's guess. I reckon a bit of husky, collie maybe?? She was 18 months when we adopted her from Any Dog'il Do in Edinburgh. She had been found as a tiny pup with a broken leg having been hit by a car and looked after in Romania before they brought her over. They've been brilliant with on going support when I've needed it. She's a sweetheart, very nervous at times but very playful too smile

permaquandry Sat 02-Feb-13 20:57:51

Mrsd, she looks absolutely gorgeous and so like my beautiful old boy. He was from a uk rescue but I aways thought he'd have an Eastern European accent if he could talk.

I want to cuddle her (obvs, after 10 a few baths).

Hope all goes well with the pickup, looking forward to hearing how delightful she is!

LadyTurmoil Sat 02-Feb-13 21:46:10

only She looks gorgeous, does have that "Rommie" look about her. Was it difficult to be confident you were making the right decision when you couldn't meet her beforehand - I look with longing at their website and really fell for a small lab cross, but (apart from bugger of a DH who doesn't like dogs sad) would find it difficult to know if it was THE dog just from a photo and short description... this question to all the new owners!

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 22:00:32

You have to take the leap of faith I think.
I said to the nice lady who called me that I could wait and wait for the 'perfect dog' and miss out on the perfect dog while I was waiting.

I knew I wanted a young, small dog.
I suppose ideally I would have a very small, male, 4mth old puppy.
But tbh unless they knew the parentage they would not know how small a dog would become at 4mths and anyway, it will be nice to have another female to keep me company smile
So when they sent me photos of Cutey (or Betty-Whizz (dont ask)) and she met the critea of being small and young, I thought 'lets go for it!'

She has been in a foster home so has some training and we know a bit about her character. I would not have accepted a 'yard' or 'pound' dog if they were over 6mths.

My youngest DC is 2 and I have a 5 year old. My 9 year old has autism. I need to be realistic about the sort of dog we can be a family to.

I really like the way the Rommie dogs are 'proper' mongrels. Like my first dog (as an adult) they are a real mix and you can't really pick out the parentage.

I am so pleased about this, love hearing about a genuine rescue dog. Can you put a photo on your profile when you get time for those of us that don't have Facebook?

onlyoneboot Sat 02-Feb-13 22:21:23

Leap of faith is about right, MrsD, I was just floating the idea around of getting a dog then saw Hope and fell for her. A bit heart over head, I must admit...But I saw loads of photos of her right from when she was first found and a video of her interacting with other dogs and people so I had a fair idea what to expect. It was still a bit nerve wracking. I did look at other local rescue's but it was hard to find a dog that was used to children and cats.

MrsDeVere Sat 02-Feb-13 22:33:36

I will tough. smile

Apparently Betty is used to people coming and going and kids so I am hoping all will be well.
I am expecting a few ups and downs though. The kids are bound to be very excited and will need lots of watching in case they try and crowd her.
I have to be careful they don't get inbetween her and my other dog if there are any spats.

The dogs are little and my two year old is massive so its not like having a baby and a bull mastiff so I am not worried, just being cautious.

I spoke to the home checkers today and was very honest. I have never had to give an animal up and do not intend to but if it all goes horribly wrong I have to be sensible. As Betty is only about 7-8mth old I do not think there should be any serious problems.

This rescue keeps ownership of the dogs so they will always take a dog back. I think that is the mark of a good rescue.

But I am working on the assumption that we will have some weeing, some pooing, some chewing, a few doggie spats and quite a bit of whinging, kids doing my head in and then it all settling down after a few weeks.

So fingers crossed!

Oh and I am fulling expecting my other dog to try his best to wee on my bed. That is how he shows his annoyance!

bumpybecky Sat 02-Feb-13 22:59:00

just seen this - how very exciting! she looks lovely smilesmile

Iamaslummymummy Mon 04-Feb-13 10:22:47

Hows the puppy Mrs d?

MrsDeVere Mon 04-Feb-13 11:22:46

Not got her yet.
Had our home check on saturday and that was fine.
Waiting for details of pick up this Saturday.

I really hope she like catching mice. Its not essential but it would be a welcome bonus grin

Iamaslummymummy Mon 04-Feb-13 14:13:10

Ah, I thought it was this Sunday.I am so surprised how loving and gentle my dog is smile

MrsDeVere Mon 04-Feb-13 16:47:38

Really glad you are getting along well. Makes me feel a bit less nervous smile

<<counts down the days to Saturday>>

MrsDeVere Thu 07-Feb-13 11:07:59

I have done the forms. Got to pin OH down to pay the donation today (he is the tax payer so needs to be in his name for Gift Aid).

Then look forward to sitting in a freezing car park for a few hours to pick up a smelly little dog.

Actually reading that all seems a bit dodgy grin

onlyoneboot Thu 07-Feb-13 13:11:17

My pick up was at 7am in a car park. Had to leave at 5.30am to get there. Everyone thought I was crazy but it was all very organised and worth it. She was pretty smelly thoughgrin

LadyTurmoil Thu 07-Feb-13 13:33:47

Fingers crossed MrsD Looking forward to seeing photos of the new arrival

MrsDeVere Thu 07-Feb-13 13:54:52

Its weird. i have seen a whole set of photos but still cant get an idea of her in my head.

I think the problem is that she looks like a 'big dog'. She has big dog features and colouring. But you see her next to a cat and she is about the same size.

I am still half scared that I am going to be taking delivery of a massive GSD x Great Dane!

onlyoneboot Thu 07-Feb-13 14:34:02

that's funny, MrsD, I had sleepless nights worrying that Hope might be enormous even though I'd seen photos of her next to someone. She has GSD in her for sure but she is quite slight. Your pup-to-be looks similar but teeny and very beautiful.

MrsDeVere Sat 09-Feb-13 19:21:44

Got her!
Nightmare journey down to Thurrock because of a horrible accident on A406. It looked terrible. I hope that everyone got out alive.

So a 35min journey took two hours. Plus the time I was given for pick up was an hour later than the actual time! Eeek. Found out just in time to leave.

So we got her, in a car park, in Essex from two men in a van. It felt like some sort of drug deal.

She has her passport and all is legit.

She is LOVELY. She is quite long but only teeny. She has been sniffing about and obviously loves children. My eldest boy popped round and she is shameless around him. Mind you he does have that affect on most females hmm

I bathed her cos she pongs.

I am just putting up a photo on my profile.

NameAndChanged Sat 09-Feb-13 19:27:24

Shes lovely congrats.

Can I ask why people are fetting dogs from Romania though? Its the first ive heard of it. Are you in the UK?

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

MrsDeVere Sat 09-Feb-13 19:38:35

She smelt mostly of hay confused
Not a bad smell but she was a bit greasy so I thought I had better give her a bath.

name I got her because she needed a home and they were willing to home her with me. I am not sure how long this has been happening but there are several rescues who home dogs from various countries including Romania, Cyprus and Spain.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

LadyTurmoil Sat 09-Feb-13 22:09:47

Fantastic MrsD so glad it all worked out - picture is lovely - your children are all gorgeous too (from your MN profile). Congratulations x

BookieMonster Sun 10-Feb-13 02:09:17

She is beautiful, MrsDV!

MrsDeVere Sun 10-Feb-13 10:11:40

Little bit of whinging last night but not much.
Went down this morning expecting carnage but nothing! Just a very excited doggie wanting a cuddle.
No wee, no poo, no chewing confused

She is asleep on my bed because we are having a lie in but I will have to give her some breakfast.

I was expecting her to be dry food but she doesn't like it. I gave her chappie last night because that is what we have in. I am taking her and DS2 to the pet shop to buy her ID disc and some toys. I will have look at the food while I am there.

Any recommendations? She looks about 6-8mths old.

SpicyPear Sun 10-Feb-13 12:16:42

Aww glad it's going well. NatureDiet wet trays are great and can be bought online much more cheaply than individualy in the shops.

Aw, MrsDeVere, she looks absolutely adorable smile.
And it sounds like she is settling in nicely.
Congratulations on the successful addition to your family - I am still envy.

LadyTurmoil Tue 12-Feb-13 11:35:04

How's it going MrsDV? How is new pup and how is your other dog feeling about the new addition?! Hope it's going well smile

MrsDeVere Tue 12-Feb-13 12:47:31

She is lovely! So friendly. Not nervous at all.
She wii fetch toys and this delights the children.

My other of s pretty miffed and is not responding well to her attempts at play sad
But he is tolerating her well. He isn't going for her.

I love her

digerd Tue 12-Feb-13 13:22:52

Male dogs don't usually go for a female. My neighbour didn't believe me as he said his won't let any dog onto his territory. He was astonished when they did meet and in his house, when he came running in and immediately fell in love with my little girl, who spurned his advances with a cat-like purring growl, which even on my lap she didn't stop doing. My male neighbour couldn't believe it himself. < my little girl is so pretty and cute, but won't stand persistant males> grin face.

SpicyPear Tue 12-Feb-13 17:35:39

More photos ? grin

MrsDeVere Tue 12-Feb-13 21:18:24

Just added another photo grin

SpicyPear Tue 12-Feb-13 22:00:03

She is absolutely adorable. You are right, she looks like she should be husky size but she is actually just a little thing!

MrsDeVere Tue 12-Feb-13 22:06:50

When people ask me what breed she is I say 'Romanian Long Dog'.

Cos she is long and Romanian, and a dog grin

LadyTurmoil Wed 13-Feb-13 00:16:04

Really gorgeous, glad to hear it's going so well. Love the Romanian Long Dog!

She is such a cutie! What's her name?

MrsDeVere Wed 13-Feb-13 07:55:22

Betty-Whizz (long story) smile

diddl Wed 13-Feb-13 08:41:11

She´s gorgeous!

Similar colouring to ours who´s a rescue dog with a fantastic temperament.

Iamaslummymummy Wed 13-Feb-13 12:25:21

envy no wee and no pop? They must have sent me the wrong rommie!

MrsDeVere Wed 13-Feb-13 14:44:04

Give her time....
I keep expecting to come across a secret stash of poo somewhere grin

Iamaslummymummy Wed 13-Feb-13 16:25:47

LtEveDallas Wed 13-Feb-13 17:37:13

She's lovely MrsDV, you must be very happy with her smile I hope she brings you lots of joy.

MrsDeVere Wed 13-Feb-13 18:40:37

Thank you smile

She is very lovely and everyone coos over her. She is very sociable too.

I keep expecting her to do something awful, she has only been here a few days and seems to have settled in a bit too easily.

Long may it last!

grin @ Romanian Long Dog - does the Kennel Club recognise this breed wink.

She looks lovely and you sound all loved up!

LadyTurmoil Thu 14-Feb-13 02:08:16

Have you thought about sending AAA some pics, the rescuers in Romania would love to hear about the happy endings!

saffronwblue Thu 14-Feb-13 02:50:02

She is lovely and I agree she looks like a small big dog!

MrsDeVere Thu 14-Feb-13 07:45:57

I post them on there happy ever afters page Lady. Her foster carer is on my FB too. Bless her, she must be very confused at some of my ranting on there blush

Not about the dog of course, just generally. grin

She did such a good job with her.

She needs more socialisation though. She is still mouthing a lot and needs to understand when other dogs are not interested.

My other dog continues to tolerate. Sometimes he forgets to be annoyed but he still will not put up with any contact. I really want them to be proper friends. He is only four and needs to play a bit.
