We are adopting a dog from a rescue in Cyprus and her name is currently something fairly hard for the DC to pronounce - any suggestions as to a new one? She's a scruffy-looking golden creature but very cute.

all of my dogs (and my mums) have always had names ending in y or ie!

but you may not be as mad as we are

Booyhoo Mon 07-Jan-13 17:07:07

i can think of loooooads more but you might think me very bitchy grin

Scootergrrrl Mon 07-Jan-13 17:09:35

I like Boris but she's a girl! And I never object to bit of bitchiness...

I also like a few in the first list - some are the names of cousins or friends' children so should probably avoid those.

Do you want a "human" name or a "dog" name?

probably not Mabel then, if even adults can't spell it blush

Scootergrrrl Mon 07-Jan-13 17:12:25

Either human or dog - not bothered really. Just want something the DCs can pronounce, although not necessarily spell wink

oh a girl!! so much choice

hmm, scruffy blonde mongrel? charlotte/kerry/pamela/(what colour is jordan's hair these days?)

Masai Mon 07-Jan-13 17:14:00

If i had a dog I'd call it Willy

OwlLady Mon 07-Jan-13 17:14:16

how old are your children? you may find they have their own ideas on what the dog is called anyway grin

We have recently had a rescue pup, she was called something else we decided she looked like a Molly, so chose Molly. My daughter has decided her name is Mo hmm

My grandma had a scruffy blonde dog when I was growing up. Apparently my teenage hormonal mum (had just had me!) burst into tears at rescue centre declaring her so scruffy she was sure to be pts if they didn't have her.

She was called Sparky and was the worlds most patient lovely dog.

LadyTurmoil Mon 07-Jan-13 17:25:45

Penny (fan of that character in Big Bang Theory!), also like Lola, Ruby, Cally (?), Tally (?), Annie, Estie, Carly, Jazzy, lol to Fire Mable/Mabel!! Which rescue is she coming from in Cyprus - I follow some on Facebook and they have some lovely dogs. Interested to know how much it cost you for adoption/transport (if you don't mind me asking...). How's it going OwlLady?

yes links to rescue charity please , we're looking for one

Scootergrrrl Mon 07-Jan-13 17:31:55

Lovely suggestions, thank you. We are getting her from a charity which rehomes specifically to forces families but I'll get a link to the main charity and post it here asap. It's going to cost us 300 euro but she's chipped and snipped and has a pet passport.

Jellykat Mon 07-Jan-13 17:32:49

Scruffy blonde = Monroe grin

how is it going with my dogs ladyturmoil or in general? smile The dogs are fine. Older dog got over her gastritis and hasn't had any more problems. Little dog is fine, a bit barky at anything remotely different, like balloons for example grin but all is fine. She has grown loads but that means she is still skinny as all the food must be making grow in height rather than weight!

Scootergrrrl Mon 07-Jan-13 18:41:46

DD has suggested Gypsy because she's travelled a long way. What do people think of that?

Maggie...our beloved Golden Retrievor's (PTS today aged 13) nickname. Real nane Bailey but grew into Maggie- Belfast expression- 'you're as thoughother as Maggie Moore' (sort of hints at scruffiness!) suited her...Xx

My first thought was 'Dolly' as in Dolly Parton.

I do like Gypsy - as long as you promise to post pics of her looking all windswept and well travelled grin

Yddraigoldragon Mon 07-Jan-13 19:39:23

LadyTurmoil Mon 07-Jan-13 23:28:35

Gypsy is lovely although I suppose it makes me think of a Sophia Loren type or the girls from the gypsy encampment in From Russia with love rather than Marilyn.. what about Amy, Gina, Blondie, Macie, Pippa, Primrose

Scootergrrrl Tue 08-Jan-13 13:43:00

Still at deadlock - have uploaded a couple of pictures onto my profile for inspiration!

Scootergrrrl Thu 10-Jan-13 19:37:06

What do we think of the name Duffy? Blonde and shaggy, although the real one is fairly classy. Can't bring myself to call her Jordan or Kerry wink.

LadyTurmoil Thu 10-Jan-13 20:27:50

I LIKE Duffy - great idea, defo not Jordan or Kerry, lol!!
