My lovely dog has been for the big chop today. He's pitiful this evening, crying and making big eyes at us. I know it was the most responsible thing to do, but I feel really guilty and a bit sad.

I also don't know what to tell my DDs. I've been saying that he had to go to the vet to have a little cut made on his tummy, because we don't want him to father puppies, but I am not sure if this was TMI or not. They are 5 and 2. The 2 year old is very cuddly with the dog and I wanted to explain to be extra gentle. They can also see he is crying and has a big collar on. Please help me do/ say the right thing.

He will most probably be completely fine and bouncing by tomorrow, honestly smile
I think what you have told your Dc is perfectly adequate, just make sure they give him space if he wants it.
You have absolutely done the right thing.
