car travel with a greyhound

Hi all. We're collecting our greyhound on monday and unsure what to buy to get him home safely. We're thinking of a Bergan harness but feel like we are guessing on the size. I know dogs have to be restrained in cars so just wondering what everyone else does please?

Our greyhound also travels unrestrained in the boot. If it's a longer journey (more than 10 mins) we chuck his bed in and he curls up and sleeps.

Enjoy - they are wonderful diva dogs.

Thank you, it's about 60 miles but it's a hellish journey so normally takes a couple of hours.

I'd second the boot. Are you getting an ex racer? They're good travellers as long as they can adjust position from time to time. They're quite used to going long distances in crates in the back of vans so a boot is the best domestic fit iyswim.
Congrats btw, they're such lovely dogs. We've got a proper duchess and scooby doo! Be prepared for their character to come out and grab you by the heart!

Our two travel like bookends in the boot also . As long as they can get up , peer out of the window occasionally , fart and turn round to lay down again , then they're happy .

I tried a harness with my grey, she just got in a tangle as she likes to turn round. And round. And round. And 4 more times for good measure - before she lies down. Now I have a grille across the boot/back seat space and everyone's happy. DD can't get poked in the back of the neck by a wet pointy nose, and my grey can twirl around to her heart's content.

I bought a grille that was specifically designed for my car. It cost a bit more but was so easy to install and fits so well (can still put back seats down, use parcel shelf etc when dog not in car) it was well worth the extra ££.

I've got a Honda Jazz, so not a big car, but she's fine in the boot. My parents have a Fiat Panda and she even fits in there for the odd short trip to the park

Mine goes in the boot too, getting a grille is next on my list of things to get, the kids don't like her peering over their heads!

She travels really well in the car.

Countdown is on indeed, Greenie! We have a matter of days for the daft cat to work out that she is perfectly capable of jumping over the new stair gate and doesn't have to sit behind it, meowing pathetically! eye roll

Car wise we have gone for bed in the boot and bought a grille. Thanks for your help everyone
