He strolled in with our two year old & a bag of shopping, then said "find somewhere to put this" and pulled out our newly christened Bruno nn brew. He is so tiny!!

Hmm... Did you want one?

A puppy, as a surprise?

Where did it come from and what was the reasoning behind bringing him home like that?

Report
NoahVale · 08/10/2016 08:55

just delightful

We've wanted one for a while, we lost our family dog a while ago (he lived at my dads up the road but I grew up with him)
Dp got him from a friend

I really thought we'd got past the 'puppies as presents' thing, but good luck

that is a bit of a snooty attitude you've got Costa

He's lovely. My lovely old dog died in February and I'd love it if dh came home with a puppy.
What breed is he?

Report
NoahVale · 08/10/2016 09:04

looks like a jack russell

No, just not keen on surprise puppies

I'm sorry but I'm with costa on this - puppies are not toys, and should never be surprise presents!

Oh he's adorable!

I think this isn't a standard random present of a dog though. DP and I have been discussing getting a second dog as GinDog is very sociable and used to living with two others, and seems a bit miffed that his only mate is the cat now. We've been discussing breeds etc, know what we want so will just wait for the right time.

If DP had been sorting it all out for me and then just appeared with it as a surprise, I would be absolutely delighted. But it would still be planned IYSWIM, as we are already ready and prepared to welcome another dog into the house. So the novelty is not going to wear off like if you bought a dog as a present for someone unexpectedly.

Sake! This is a lovely, sweet thing to do and OP obvs wanted a dog. Why be arsey about the way it was done??

Giving pets as presents isn't alright, but the reasons for that don't apply here so let's enjoy the puppy :)

He looks adorable.
I wish my DH would bring me one home!
I have been trying to talk him into having a dog for ages.
As a family, we always had a dog. My brother and sisters both have dogs. I go walking with friends a couple of times a week with their dogs .....but still not convinced DH!

I agree just giving a puppy as a gift isn't on.
But since I lost my family pet I've been wanting another jack russell and although I had been looking I hadn't seen any that I'd instantly loved. It wasn't a surprise as such, we planned to get a puppy, I'm really glad dp bought him.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe It's worth a try! Wink

Some do - what sort of dodgy person lets a puppy leave knowing not everyone in the house is in on it?

Bigfam · 08/10/2016 09:27

He was from one of dp's friends, someone he has known for years and works with, not some sort of back door dodgy breeder.

Did he also bring back everything else that you will need for Bruno?

Aww he's beautiful. We have a chug and a jack Russel x and if my dh came home with a puppy I'd be over the moon as we are currently looking for a new addition to our family.

He's gorgeous Big - wanted, waited for ,planned and sourced.

Hopefully your DH put the shopping away while you let your new addition find his way round.
