I'm so upset. I arranged for the puppy, a miniature schnauzer to be groomed today of DHs day off. Told him to get him clipped but he's been shaved to a inch of his life. No fur on him the kids have cried because he doesn't look like our beloved dog, he just looks like a scrawny imposter! I'm so mad at Dh. Need some rational dog people to talk some sense into me

Happened to me with my little poodle when she was a puppy. I was distraught. And embarrassed when I walked her in case people thought I'd asked for it. Everyone told me not to worry it would quickly grow back. And it did. In six weeks he'll look OK I promise.

I've heard lots of people say this about having their mini schnauzer clipped for the first time. We had ours trimmed at 13 weeks, ahe was just neatened up a bit and looked great, but am dreading the first full adult-style clip, apparently people don't even recognise their dogs when they come out! Anyway, just posting for support and to say yanbu, this seems to be a 'thing'!

My Mam has hers done it summer for the dogs benefit. I agree she looks like a rat for a few weeks afterwards.

S/he's still the same dog op honestly it will grow back.

Iv put a photo of my mams after her Autumn clipping for you too compare.

There do seem to be a lot of people who set themselves up as groomers and just shave everything that gets brought in.

Ideally schnuazers should be hand stripped rather than clipped. A decent groomer should offer hand stripping for dogs with appropriate coats or you can learn how to do it yourself at home.

It is a shock when your mini schnauzer pup is first clipped but they grow back so fast, honestly you will get used to it. Our is really pleased with himself after a haircut.

Here he is before and after his first cut.

He's gorgeous best is he still that dark or has he gone grey? Ours is black and silver and I keep hearing about others who turned much lighter when their adult coat came in.

He's still dark snarky. He's only a year old though. He's black and silver too. He does have a brownish tinge. I've read you have to strip them to stop them going lighter.

Both my mum and my sister have mini Schnauzers. My sister has hers clipped in the traditional way, very short and accentuating the eyebrows/ mustache. My mum gets a longer more even cut cut so her dog looks more like a slightly shaggy teddy bear. I think the way he is groomed is relatively unusual and probably needs to be specifically requested.

I think you just have to make sure next time he gets groomed that you are really explicit about the cut you want otherwise you will get the standard Schnauzer look.

That's what I heard too Best, though apparently it also has to do with the colour of their undercoat? Anywjo, I just want my little monster to stay exactly as she is!
