Hello
Has anyone used Bravecto on their dog?
Our Bullie has Demodectic mange and after various unsuccessful meds the vet has given him Bravecto which is unlicensed....I've checked on the Internet and there are very mixed reviews and some quite scary ones. I'd be so grateful for any feedback.

I'm a vet. I've never used Bravecto for DM, though a quick google reveals a study suggesting it's highly effective, but I've prescribed it often. I have never had a problem with it, I use it for my own 4 dogs, and all the staff in my practice use it; none of us have ever had any problems either. Every newish medicine will trigger Internet scare stories. Every new medicine will very occasionally cause reactions in a few patients. Most internet scare stories are just that, scare stories. It's not licensed for DM and so your vet has to tell you that, but it is licensed for fleas and ticks, so thoroughly tested in dogs, it's not like using a drug in a totally different species from the one it was developed for, which is obviously sometimes a bit more of an unknown quantity.

Thank you so much for your message
Zig's has been suffering for ages, he's had Milbemax for cats, Advocate and now Bravecto. He is the light of our lives so we'll try anything but Dr Google panicked me slightly!!!
Thanks again for your reassurance.

I am with Japanese if you google any prescription med you will find stories just Bravecto is the current high profile one. My practice has prescribed 3 thousand doses ( I checked the other day) and we have had four dogs vomit with it.
After the study for demodetic mange was published I have used it successfully on a few cases. I definitely is better than advocate which is licenced for DM.
