As a new doggie owner I wondered if there any specific websites?

Any recommendations gladly welcomed - thank you.

This is a pretty good website to start with. There's some nice cottages on there and the Dogs Trust get a donation for every booking.

TripAdvisor is also quite good for finding holiday rentals, you can apply a filter to find places that allow pets.

Always remember to check the details though, some cottage owners have a very different idea of "pet friendly" to most dog owners!! I've seen cottages advertised as dog friendly only for the small print to say the dog is only allowed in the utility room Hmm

We used to rent a cottage to tourists via Sykes and used them as guests a number of times. Very good and many dog friendly places.

Thank you - I'll check those out.

If you're on FB look for the site dog friendly holiday accommodation. You can out in your requirements and the owners will reply directly.

Second Rhubarbs suggestion. We have just come back from a great week found on there. And no worries about dogs being welcomed!

I've just stayed down near Mousehole at a place called Castallack farm. It was really good accommodation.

I've just booked accommodation on airbnb which was easy to search for pet friendly places.

Was just looking on there George. But too tired so will have a proper search tomorrow!

The FB page mentioned by Tooold is brilliant. You can actually do a post stating your requirements e.g. hot tub, number of dogs, number of beds etc. and suitable premises reply to you. Excellent.

The Dugs n Pubs website has some suggestions

There's a pets allowed option on air bnb - we always use that. Just expand the amenities section and its there.

The FB group I've found you have to request to join? Is that the right one?

m.facebook.com/groups/17291431941?view=info&refid=18&ref=bookmarks

Dont know it the link will work. It is a closed group, and called 'dog friendly holiday accommodation'

You can post and say, 'looking for a 2 bed cottage, 5 mins walk to the sea, 3 rottweilers and a chinchilla, 1 hour drive from Skegness' and you will get loads of responses!

It is really that good😊

We just use ownersdirect and put allows dogs as one of our search criteria. We have been all over the uk with them.

I second Sykes Cottages. You can filter your search for pet friendly accommodation. Forest Holidays also do pet friendly cabins.

We have used Owners Direct too, with no problems. I think the reason i like this site is because the owners actively seek out people with dogs, rather than tolerate them. IME, although on a lot of sites it says dogs are allowed, they then:
Charge per night, per dog
State that dogs cannot be left at home alone
Have restrictions no where they can go in the house
Do not necessarily have enclosed gardens.

The places i have found through this site have all been dog lovers/owners. I have never paid extra for my two, dog towels, beds, even bowls are often provided, along with copious amounts of throws, so that if Fido likes to lounge on the sofa, he can😊

They also tend to have enclosed, dog proof gardens, which is brilliant and some will take up to six or seven dogs!

We recently went to a fantastic place in the north lake district, pure luxury - the master suite was incredible and we even had a cinema room.

Dogs loved the garden too.

Just be aware that some dog-friendly places also advertise on "normal" websites. So, we found a nice place on a dog-friendly site to stay in Devon when our dog was a puppy, but the next-door-neighbours booked their cottage elsewhere and had two kids who were terrified of dogs, so I was on edge all week in case he ambushed them.

Land Mark Trust allow you to filter by dog friendly and we have stayed in dog friendly National Trust places (Shute Barton house, but you need a few of you to fill it!).
