Lap spay neutering- any experiences?

My girl's going for neutering tomorrow. We were initially told she'd have to have it done the old fashioned way because she's had quite a few litters but yesterday the vet surgeon called and said she'd be fine to have a lap spay.

The vet said it's obviously less invasive and has a shorter recovery time.

Does anyone have any experience of having their dog being lap spayed?

How were they on the day you picked them up? How long was their recovery time? When were you able to walk them again?

I'm so nervous for her Sad

Recovery time is MUCH shorter. Days rather than weeks with the traditional spay.

She will probably be quite woozy from the anesthetic for the 24 hours, and might be a bit sore for the next couple of days, but you can probably do on-lead walks on day 2 or 3, and then back to normal by day 5.

There is very little aftercare required for the incision site, and she shouldn't need a cone of shame.

Your vet will give you the aftercare plan, because it varies by dog and also by how the op goes

sparechange Thanks ever so much for your reply.

The vet said she would need a cone of shame for a week or so, though we're going for a rather fetching vest instead. But, yours didn't need a cone?

We're due for a follow-up three days after the operation. Do you think we could walk her to the vets (it's about a mile, she's a medium terrier) or would it be too early? We don't have a car so getting to and from the vets is difficult.

Thanks for your help!
