The doghouse

My dog was bitten

My cocker spaniel was bitten on the ear this morning when we were walking him. He was on the lead, as was the dog who bit him. It came completely out of the blue and the owners didn't say anything. It was only when I stroked him afterwards I realised that his ear was bleeding.

We came home and I've bathed it but I can't find the actual wound - his fur is long and dark and I can't find it. It doesn't seem to be bothering him at all, he was quite happy for me to touch and clean it.

Is there anything else I ought to do? Antiseptic cream?

Thanks.

I'd check with the vets. Some human medicines are poisonous to animals. I don't know what you would be able to put on it.

And have a strong word with the other owner when you see them.

As long as it isn't bleeding I'd leave it.

Thanks for the replies, sorry I've only just seen them.

In the end, I left it because it wasn't bleeding and because like MsAdorabelle said I was worried about using human antiseptic on it. It was fine.

Not sure I'll see the owner again, but I was really cross about it.
