The doghouse

A poorly boy and a question.

I have a poorly dog today. Didn't eat his breakfast and has been asleep on the bed all morning. He is looking very sorry for himself.

His stomach is not great and as far as u can tell has not drunk today.

I am sure he will be fine but I have a question for you more experienced dog owners.

How do you tell if a dog who seemly just is feeling abut off needs a vet visit.

I don't want to run everytime but do you have a line that they have to cross it or a symptom that makes you think twice?

How is he today?

If he is no better I would take him to the vets, especially if he's not drinking either. I always think that because they can't talk to us and tell us what's up, I'd rather be on the safe side and go to the vets.

For me, its when my dog is very floppy and lethargic which is out of character, combined with not eating or drinking.

Vets. It's likely just an upset tummy but, for me, it's not worth the risk.

I took him in the end. As his bottom exploded yesterday lunch. She has given antibiotic. And if he was sick again to go back today.
But he woke up much happier and ate. So I am happy z

An exploding bottom probably made him feel much better.

Better out than in.

He has stopped being sick but his stomach is still really horrible and he has not made it outside a few times today. He seems really quiet.

Maybe phone the vet in the morning or leave it? All the vets here close on Friday for Easter.

How long is too long to wait or am I overreacting

Definitely phone them in the morning. Bloody animals being ill over a bank holiday.

So this morning he still has a horrible stomach. Just liquid really. And I can't get him to eat his antibiotics.

Phoning the vets this morning. He is just sleeping.

Has the vet suggested what you should be feeding him? When mine have an upset tummy (usually caused by eating some crap out in the woods), I put them on a (cooked) chicken and rice diet for a few days as that seems to calm it down.

Hope he's feeling better soon.

The trouble is he won't eat anything as it all tastes of tablet. I have tried so many different foods and going through tablets while doing it.

So even not eating is not helping his stomach. The vets opens at nine. I live in a little village so I normally just turn up and they see u

Have you tried tablets in little bits of hotdog sausage? That's always my go to as it tastes really strong. Hope your boy is better soon

Well the vet kept him at the hospital. Very de hydrated. And as he wouldn't eat the tablets they have put him on a drop etc and will inject the antibiotics.

Poorly boy. Love my vets though so he is in good hands. Wonder how long he will be there. The house is quiet without him

Aw. Hope he's feeling better today. Sometimes they need to be on a drip to get them going again, being dehydrated is crap.
Also assume your vet will be able to inject the medicine rather than battling with tablets?
