The doghouse

If you feed raw, where do you buy from?

We recently had to stop as DP has lost his job and the cost was too much but I have decided I'm going back to raw, I'll just cut back elsewhere. I was previously buying the bags of mince from nature's menu but I saw a poster say on a thread they raw feed their two dogs for £30 a month. I'd be interested if anyone can tell me where they buy from. thank you.

www.naturalinstinct.com

The lovely people here are sending me samples as I don't have a supplier nearby and their prices are reasonable from what I can see. Might be worth a look :)

30 quid for two dogs. Either they are small dogs or it's mince and not completes.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 21/04/2015 19:13

Bumping as I'd be interested as well.

HoneyDragon · 21/04/2015 19:15

Albion Meats, amazing value. I can email you a price list if you want Smile

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 21/04/2015 19:15

A tually, I think a friend might have mentioned she gets hers from Wolftucker but I've no idea about the price.

Develop a relationship with your local independant butcher, if you buy regular amounts of human food for the family and meal plan to keep the cost down it won't blow the budget. Then you can chat him/her up for pet mince, offal & bones.

Mine keeps all the scraps, boney bits & damaged offal & makes pet mince which you can buy frozen in pound lumps. I like it as it is human grade food but differs every week in content so lots of variety.

Morrisons have a good fish counter, & sprats are often on offer so kilos of them can be quite cheap as a change from meats. Lidl do packs of pollock fillets that last quite a while, I give mine a few of those & a can of sardines in oil (with most drained off) for a fish meal once a week.

Although it might be expensive, investing in your dogs health will save on vets bills in the long run so worth investigating.

Keep an eye out for marked down packs of meat at your supermarket or special offers too & fill up the freezer.

Landywoods or Raw2Go - I think I worked out it was costing £20-25 could be wrong though per week to feed DDogs -greyhound and very small staffie cross.

I found natural instincts very expensive - and possibly full of water - as greyhound loses weight when I feed it. I will google Albion

TooOldForGlitter · 21/04/2015 19:31

Thanks everyone. Lots to research! I'd be grateful for a price list Honey, I'll PM you my email address is that's ok.

No worries, I've sent it.

I like Albion as they cover a lot of the UK very frequently.

BagelwithButter · 21/04/2015 22:47

If you join FB group "Raw Feeding UK" they have loads on info, including list of many UK suppliers

Chattymummyhere · 22/04/2015 20:19

We have used and liked

Dutchess pet foods (facebook)
Bulmers (Facebook and own website)
The let food company (own website)
Mvm or mvn

Morrisons is good for cheap bones and reduced offal

Also get to know local farmers we get free whole dead animals and butchers waste from them (feet/fat/bones/necks etc)

Chattymummyhere · 22/04/2015 20:20

The pet food company not the let

TooOldForGlitter · 23/04/2015 21:57

I'm still looking but gawd isn't it in a minefield out there! It's like breast v bottle for dogs, only more aggressive Grin

Think I'm decided on the supplier, thanks very much to Honey who emailed me their price list.

It has genuinely surprised me just how quickly so many of Bob's issues have come back since taking him off raw. I don't think the food he is on is terrible but it seems as though nothing really compares to raw.

I get mine from the local butcher, very cheap and some free because I buy all our meat from there. Every time I go in I get given a bag with "something for Eric" for nothing so it costs me very little tbh.

YourBubzYourRulzHun · 24/04/2015 20:40

I feed my two Natural Instinct and it costs about £40 per month but this is because I buy over 80kg so I get 30% discount. The dogs are 25kg each but one has more food as she struggles to keep weight on and the other is a good size so he has less. I also give them chicken wings, turkey necks, lambs necks etc to supplement their diet.
