Hi all.
Title says it all.
Dpup ( lab/ lab- springer mix) will be ready to come to us mid feb.
Had dogs growing up, but not had one for 20+ years, dh similar , he was raised on a farm so LOTS of dogs, but none on the last 20 + years.
We have 5-6 weeks to prepare the house/ buy equipment and if anyone would be kind enough to look over the list and add on anything we've not considered that would be great.
Crate with bedding.
Food/ water bowls
Insurance
Puppy pads
collar and lead
brush.
Food ( will liase with seller)
TIA

Would scrap puppy pads, get clicker, treats, toys for pup to chew, old towels for drying pup after wandering round garden for eternity a while in rain waiting for him to toilet, decent mat for back door and warm / waterproof clothing for you - see above. Don't forget to get first vet appointment booked in advance, and work out how you will transport pup - crate for car or willing assistant. Oh, and lots of kitchen roll / cleaning products for accidents! Good luck.

How could I have forgotten poo bags ? Shock
Were bringing the old stair gate down from the loft.
I'm amazed when I hear of anyone getting a puppy " on a whim" - we feel we really need 5-6 weeks to get house puppy proofed and everything ready Confused

Something to wipe mud off pup when he/she comes in muddy (microfibre towels on Amazon for quick drying - or old towel).

We binned mat thing inside front door as we couldn't clean it easily when puppy messed on it, and bought washable one.

Biological washing powder for mopping up leaks.

Spare bucket and mop.

Rope toy.

Training books.

Bin in garden to put puppy poo in.

Also, lots of reading in the meantime. I also had dogs 20-30 years ago at home and I realise only now how things have changed in terms of the understanding of dog behaviour - so different to how our dogs were brought up (though they were well behaved and fine, so could be sceptical here).

The name and phone number of a good dog training club.

Training lessons goes without saying. All dogs need socialisation and training. They don't come knowing how to sit or stay or get off the furniture. It's like having a newborn in the house again. One that can already run and has very sharp teeth.

Good luck. Please come back and post some pics! Xmas Grin
