I lost my terrier cross Dave a few hours ago. He was 14 and had been ill with urinary tract and bladder problems. I got up this morning and he had had a lot of accidents through the night (he had become a little incontinent of late.) but his urine was bright red with blood.
The thing is that on Christmas Eve last year he came home after a week at the veterinary hospital and we were so relieved because we thought we were going to lose him then. So he's given us another year for which I'm so grateful. I'm just so very sad that my wee buddy is gone.

So sorry about your wee dog. I've been there and it's the best thing for your dog but so painful for you. The sadness will pass and you'll be left with happy memories of him x

I am so sorry to hear that but at least he is no longer suffering xx we had to say goodbye to our dog 2 weeks ago. It hurts like hell but I got lots of support from the lovely people on here.
Tomorrow is going to be SO HARD without him here, no Christmas day run across the field and the odd bits from the turkey won't be enjoyed.
Sending you a big cuddle, it's a shock, take care xxx

Thank you everyone. Your love and kindness have set me off again. Have had to keep it together all day on account of my little boy (he's 5.) Any tips on what to say to him after Christmas would be much appreciated x

Ps we told our Ds that ddog had gone to play with granny's ddog in heaven. Once he'd got hold of that we talked abt the rainbow bridge. Maybe u can offer up something along those lines? Xx

I'm so sorry for your loss, am thinking of you all. I would say tell him the truth, just without too much detail.

Beautiful boy with a smiley face. What a difficult time of year for this to happen, too.

My 14 year old lady went 4 months ago. It's one of the hardest things we have to face in life. Be kind to yourself at this awful time.

Really sorry for you. Flowers

We lost our old boy nearly three weeks ago. I have had some fantastic support from people on here, some of whom I recognise on this thread. Please do keep posting. I found it helped to talk to like minded people.

Will you have another?

so sorry Groovester. RIP Dave, hugs for his peeps. I've just finished reading about Megan's passing, having another wee cry for another family and ddog - there's been so much traffic across the rainbow bridge around this Christmas :(

I told our little boy today that Dave wasn't coming home. I told him that he was too ill and that he'd gone to a hospital for dogs far away to be loved and looked after by vets and nurses and to be with other dogs. I didn't say that he'd died because about 6 months ago, my son was obsessed with death and got upset about it a lot.
We've gone through all of our digital photos of Dave and sent away an order of prints. We are going to put an album together that my son will always have to look at so we let him choose the pictures he liked.
He is upset and cried a lot and has been very subdued today. At bedtime he said he missed Dave. It's heartbreaking.
I think we will have another dog but not for at least another year or so. We need to mourn Dave's passing. We have a 10 wk old dd too you see. Would like her to grow up a little before we add another character into the family. Thanks again ladies xx

Oh Groovester, your poor ds.

We've got a children's book about a little boy whose dog dies. His dog can see him from heaven and she is sad for him. The other dogs tell her to send him a dream about how happy she is and how lovely heaven is. He is still sad so she sends him a dream about how she wants him to have a new puppy to love. It's called Up In Heaven.

I still can't read it without welling up but it is lovely.

So sorry for you all. It's difficult, I know.
