my dog was a hero today

see pic of hero dog Smile.
Scary incident still trying to get my head round it.
Dog walk with my 2 dogs, lab and heinz 57 rescue, along riverside path. Man and a woman with a dog each ahead, man has a husky, woman has a huge dog, looks like a rottie but with a longer coat. Both pulling on their leads and barking.
I put my bouncy friendly lab on lead and move onto the river bank to give them space, my other dog is in the bushes with his ball and never takes any notice of dogs we meet on walks so I leave him.
Huge dog suddenly runs towards us dragging the woman off her feet, seems to go on for ages as she keeps hanging on, then eventually has to let go.
Dog runs up to my lab and sinks its teeth into his ear, lab yelps and whimpers. My other dog is there instantly, growling and nipping at the the dog's heels.
Dog runs back to man and my brave dog goes off to find his ball. Lab's ear is bleeding a bit but otherwise seems fine.
Woman still lying on ground, says her hip hurts and she can't stand up, a cyclist stops and shouts abuse at her, "Stupid bitch , not fit to own a dog, could have killed a child, etc". Both man and woman respond with foul language while I beat a hasty retreat with my dogs.
Feel quite shell shocked, I keep thinking that dog could have killed my lab if it'd been just him and me.

Big Bone for EnderHeroDog - what a lovely boy :)

How's the lab now?

You should report them, it could have ended badly. My friend's dog got killed like that :(

ChillingGrinBloodLover · 25/10/2014 15:32

Oh - and I meant to say, he's a very handsome lad!!

ender · 25/10/2014 15:54

Thanks. Lab seems fine part from bite on ear. Will report to dog warden on Monday, although no idea where the owners live, never seen them before. They may have been visiting from another area.

AlpacaYourThings · 25/10/2014 16:00

Well done hero doggy!

Floralnomad · 25/10/2014 16:24

It may be worthy ringing 101 and seeing if the police can trace them ,they may have gone to A&E if she was injured . Well done to your dog ,he is incredibly handsome and hope your lab feels better soon.

ender · 25/10/2014 16:41

Florainomad - thanks didn't think of that, its likely woman would have gone to A&E as she couldn't stand up.
Have looked up contacts for neighbourhood police team and can email them so will do that rather than phone.

Will be worth getting your side of the story in anyway ,you never know what people will say IYSWIM.

noddingoff · 25/10/2014 18:18

I know it's not that funny, but is anyone else having a little grin at the mental picture of IrresponsibleOwnerLady lying prostate and covered in muck hurling abuse up at SternCyclist whilst ShaggyRottie bounds around and Huskyman and Husky are both shouting away too, whilst Ender quietly exits stage left with WoundedLab and HeroDog?

pigsDOfly · 25/10/2014 19:00

My goodness hero dog is very handsome. What would complete the picture is a little red cape flying out just behind his left shoulder:)

I'm inclined to agree with the cyclist I must say.

Hope your lab is okay now and you're not too shaken up.

Definitely needs reporting.

BiscuitBiscuitBiscuit for HeroDog.

MarcoPoloCX · 25/10/2014 19:25

Definitely report. When you have to let go of the dog, then you shouldn't really be having one.

ender · 25/10/2014 19:46

After she was dragged off her feet she was really flung about, I think she must've had the lead tied to her or wrapped round her arm as it would have been impossible to hold onto it for that long.
Can't help feeling sorry for her, hope she's OK. Feel a bit mean skulking off but she had someone with her and nothing useful I could have done.
