The doghouse

8 mo puppy chewing specific embarrassing items

We have an 8 mo puppy who is a terrible chewer. We keep everything we can out of her reach, and the kids know that if they leave things out she's likely to get them.

But she keeps getting into the utility room. Where laundry goes. She isn't interested in clothes in general, but I am fed up of catching her outside having snuck out a pair of, for example, ds's underpants. It's only ever er undergarments. She completely shreds them. No hygiene issues, she just won't leave them alone. They're like (pardon the pun) puppy crack to her.

Is this normal? It's gross, especially as she leaves them lying in the back garden. She can get into laundry baskets. The door to the utility room does shut properly but the dcs (and DH and I on occasion) do sometimes forget to close it and her radar goes off.

Eric is just the same for dirty pants Hmm So much so he waits for dd to get dressed in a morning in the hope of getting her pants before they go in the laundry. I've started shutting him out of the room when dd gets changed (he plays merry hell) and try to be a bit more vigilant with the laundry baskets if only to save retrieving chewed pants later.

Mine is the same for socks and pants. We've bought another laundry basket, stack them and make sure that all small items are in the lower one.

It works when we remember to do it....

DDog2 does this. She particularly likes DH's underpants (cannot imagine why! Wink) but recently poor DD2 has been having really bad periods and there's nothing dog likes better than to find blood-stained pants in the laundry and have a really good chew on the gusset of those.

I don't know why I keep dogs at times Envy

Grin Dogs are disgusting, aren't they!? Grin

Just to put it in perspective OP - between the 3 of mine I think we must cover every disgusting dog habit known to man and dog...we have pants chewing, poo rolling, vomit eating, loud bollock licking, liking one another's bits, poo eating, I'm sure I'll come up with more in a minute...

Good job we love them! Grin

Mine LOVES dh's socks. Clean or dirty he isn't fussy. In the end I got an old odd sock of his and put one of his cuddly squeaky toys inside the sock then tied the end.
He bloody loves it, and to some extent now he has his own sock he's left everyone else's alone.

My back garden has half a dozen or more chewed socks scattered around, luckily no knickers or pants!
