Dog Cough

My 4 year old Labrador bitch has developed a cough this morning - it is more of a "huff" than an actual cough, but she is doing it repeatedly for quite a few minutes at a time. I know that she was in contact with beagles that were then later quauranteened for kennel cough, but that was over a fortnight ago and she is only showing symptoms this morning.
She seems ok otherwise and had a totally clean bill of health a couple of months ago when we had her checked over for breeding. She has only ever been ill once when she ate a rotting carcass she found in the garden. I don't want to rush her off to the vet unless absolutely necessary as a)it is Sunday so it will cost a fortune b) I had an operation on my spine 2 days ago, am in f*ing agony.
Bit paranoid as a friend visited yesterday and said her old lab went ginger before he died because of liver failure - ours sunbathed a lot and we presumed her slight change in colour was sun bleaching (it is only on her sides as she lays flat) rather than anything more sinister.
Any advice would be fab

Kennel cough for sure. Is she retching or bringing up froth?

It will pass, it sounds awful but is usually just like us having a cold. Honey will soothe the throat.

Is your dog black or chocolate? Shedding undercoat will make a black lab look a bit gingery.

She isn't retching but it has taken a more hacky sound as the day has gone on. That would explain the mystery frothy patch that I slipped on earlier! Thank you.
